I love my daughters school in every aspect except communication.

Yesterday when I picked her up there was a rumour about an outbreak of scarlet fever between the parents of reception children.

Now I know that these days it is not the disease it once was, but my children have both been really hit hard by a virus in the couple of weeks and are only now starting to brighten again. So I dotn want them coming down with another thing right on top of it, and also with my eldest only being 5 I have never come accross it before and would like to know what symptoms I should look (have since looked on line)

There are two reception classes at the school and some parents in from the other class have had a letter about the outbreak, but not all. And certainly none from my daughters class.

AIBU or is SF now just perceived as a common cold type of condition so that schools feel no point telling parents??

Would be interested to know.

I'm guessing that the ill child was in the other class.

I dont know where the ill child was, but the reception classes mingle during the day and are only really seperated for registration and table learning. So I would have thought it made no difference.

Also a friend with DC's in reception and two older classes has mentioned her middle DC has the symptoms - so it is bound to spread.

No YANBU my dd1 (5) got it back in May when she was in reception. It was bloody horrible and we ended up at A&E with her in the middle of the night. It was treated with antibiotics. Like you there was an outbreak in school but the school was red hot on it and got a letter out fast.

I'm afraid teachers are human and sometimes just forget/run out of time to hand out/book-bag the letters, esp if TA is off or summat!!

With scarlet fever whole school should be lettered and surrounding schools advised.
