To think this is quite offensive?

I was talking to a woman at school earlier, one who I know to say hello to but that's about it...

anyway she suddenly asked me if both my kids had the same dad.

I'm not easily offended but I would DREAM of asking someone this! Would you?

solidgoldbrass - in my book, it's a pretty rude question even if you were looking at two children of completely different race! Nobody's business who their father(s) is / are.

Actually, OP, weren't you really tempted to say 'Oh I've no idea who their fathers are!' with a cheerful grin??

Pimmpom · 03/12/2008 12:55

wouldn't it be great to say that misshardbroom. I will remember that if anyone has the cheek to ask me!

Thanks for the heads up. DD has dark brown eyes and dark hair. DS has blue eyes and reddish hair...

Same mom

Same dad.

it is offensive!

I have been asked about DD3, as she has dar hair and all the others are fair or blonde.

now, when she was smaller it was easy to say she is a 'mini-me', as she is actually my colour, but now I colour mine blonde, of course she does look more unusual.

the thing is tho, you put hats on all mine and cover up their hair, they are all very very alike IMO.

oh, and two of them have blue eyes (from my dad), and the other three have deepest brown eyes (my mum).....DH and I are both greeny/brown, so none of ours take after us in that respect.

some people really have no time on their hands other than offend people IME, sadly.

People used to say this actually to my dad because my sister and I looked so dissimilar (she had very blonde curly hair and was relatively chunky, whereas I was tiny and very pale but with dead straight incredibly dark hair) and I learnt from a very early age to make dismissive comments before dad had a chance to reply.

It's so so rude though, I can't imagine ever saying it even if for example the children were obviously different mixed races.
