to be annoyed at my DH for taking out subscriptions without speaking to me first?

Ok, Dhs bank sent him a letter this morning to say that they had failed his payment to satanta sports because he had now money in his account.

Turns out DH signed up to Santanta sports months ago without speaking to me. He has even said he had to go to the pub to watch a footbal match when it was on satanta. We are SO skint, we are both at our overdraft limits and just using up food etc as we can't afford to buy ANYTHING.

Bearing in mind, we have a baby and I am pregnant. These should be his priority?

I am just so pissed off because he did this behind my back. We already pay £36 for sky because he has all the sky sports etc. Which I don't like paying at all but he insists.

I am really pissed off, mainly because he lied. AND Now he cas incured an £8 charge at his bank for the transaction fail. AND he will now be charged a rediculous amount for going overdrawn without permission, probably £30 or so.

He doesn't see what the big deal is. So AIBU?

YANBU.

I don't know how to make him see this though.

solidgoldbrass · 29/11/2008 11:42

No YANBU. While it's reasonable for people to have a little bit of their own money to spend on whatever they like without consulting a partner, when there is no money for food/bills etc then the treats have to be put on hold for a while.

And the transaction-fail charge is more like £40 than £8 btw.

Start your running away fund now.

TheNewsMongersGeansaiNollag · 29/11/2008 11:45

He probably DOES realise it's not right, but he's selfish enough to want sky/setanta badly enough to 'weather' a bit of grief at home.

ARe all the sacrafices YOURS?!

If so, I've been there. I agree, start your running away fund.

chloemegjess · 29/11/2008 11:55

No, it is an £8 charge according to my letter from barclays. But it will also incure an overdraf charge so will add up to more like £40.

He is on the phone now cancelling the DD through the bank. Satanta wont let us cancel over the phone, has to be done through email???? Have emailed now though.

You should sit down and give him a typed list of all the things you would like but that you go without.

MIGHT make him think. It MIGHT>

DustyTv · 29/11/2008 12:06

YANBU, DH works out of the house and I am a SAHM, but we still consult each other on any purchases that are not essential (i.e, food, bills, stuff for DD etc) I'm just lucky that my DH doesn't like sports, apart from snooker but I hate it so he goes to watch it with my bro and dad.

FairLadyRantALot · 29/11/2008 12:13

YANBU....if you had the money, it would be different, but you haven't and than you just have to go wihtout things you may want....and tbh, to have sky sports and setanta is a bit odd...if sky sports is not good enough, why not cancel that part of the sky subscription and than maybe you could afford the setanta sport instad?

He does sound selfish. And tbh, I would not be happy with my dh if he did this...luckily we tend to talk abot these things...

chloemegjess · 29/11/2008 12:31

Right he has explained it as oit was free for the first 3 months and he thought it would cancel after the 3 months. He is very nieve like this and probably did believe that BUT he must have given them his bank details etc.

It is not even that he wants both sky and satanta. I think somebody rang up and talked him into it.

Does not excuse him at all though. He knows that all the bills etc go through me as I sort all that side out and everything goes in and out my account so he shouldn't even have given his bank details over.

Might do the list thing, I am sure I can find lots of stuff I go without!

chloemegjess · 29/11/2008 12:33

Oh and he rang the bacnk and he only has the £8 charge and that is it, so thank goodness for that so thats one think that isn't so bad.

MEN!

FairLadyRantALot · 29/11/2008 12:34

glad you got it sorted....and I assume he is going to cancel Setanta than....
that is how they make their money, give 3 month free but get the details and voila, people forget to cancel....

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/11/2008 12:34

unfor when you do deal like this - free for 3mths, they take your bank details as people normally forget to cancel,as your dh did, and thats how they make their money

i would cancel it now, most you can do striaght away, and not HAVE to have it for a year

YANBU - wallop him one x

chloemegjess · 29/11/2008 13:02

Yer as I said we tried to call them to cancel but they won't do it over the phone and said we have to email! So I have emailed now on his behalf (he knows I have done it, he is just not very good at wording/typing)

OP posts:
FairLadyRantALot · 29/11/2008 13:08

that is a bit odd, isn't it...so, they are only to happy to get you to subscribe over the phone but they won't let you cancel that way....
anyway....hope you get it canceled as soon as poss...

chloemegjess · 29/11/2008 13:28

Yes they sure no how to get the most money out of people. I complained in the cancelation email about the phone line being useless

OP posts:
solidgoldbrass · 29/11/2008 17:30

OK, in that case your DH is being less of an arse - it's not that unreasonable to think you'll have the free offer and then cancel it, and then to forget to do so. Stupid, but not as selfish and wrong as spending money on such things when the household is broke.

chloemegjess · 30/11/2008 22:30

Yes I know, but he was stupid enough to think he didn't need to cancel it, and it would cancel itself after the free trial! Oh well, hopefully he has learnt nothing ever comes for free. AND he did pay a connection fee.
