I am pregnant and I have got breast thrush. I am in absolute agony and my nipples itch like mad. My breasts feel as if they are on fire.

I have a late evening appointment at the GP at 7.20pm and I need my husband to be home to look after my six year old son.

My husband is complaining that he is at serious risk of redunancy and could lose his job if he leaves work slightly earlier than usual. He would only have to leave work twenty minutes early and its a one off.

I really don't want my son with me in the consulting room when I see the GP about thrush. It would be embarrassing to have him with me. I would prefer to leave my son at home.

Its really hard to see the GP earlier in the day as I work full time in a school. Its really hard to get time off during term time. I was hoping to get an appointment today as its an occassional day, but my GP is on holiday and our practice has a policy of only letting you see your GP for non emergency things.

Phone doctors, explain situation and see what they suggest.

Not G&T, but eminently bribable!

Reallytired · 28/11/2008 14:41

I am not being rational, I wish I could have some gas and air when putting on my bra.

I am sure that this is normal pregnacy pains.

I KNOW!!!! Blue Peter moment alert...

Wash out 2 yogurt pots and place them over your nipples, pop an oversized bra on top and bobs yer uncle!

ithinkimtallandblonde · 28/11/2008 14:59

Bloody genius!!!
Really tired, thrush is horrible i suffered with it throughout bf its crap but dacktarin works really well you might even to be able to get it over the counter and i'm afraid topless is the answer, as much as possible till its all cleared up. Natural yoghurt also helps, but you will stink, sorry.

MrsGokWan · 28/11/2008 15:00

When I had nipple thrush the Dr. prescribed me Daktarin. Could you pop to the pharmacy and ask for that?

TheProvincialLady · 28/11/2008 15:04

For breast thrush I wouldn't risk redundancy (if it is a genuine risk). IMHO the creams don't work that well anyway and have you asked the pharmacist if you can buy Daktarin over the counter?

What DOES work is:

  1. Acidophilus (good bacteria) tablets from the health food shop
  2. Washing your bra at 60 degrees and changing it every single day, plus frequent changing of any breast pads you might be wearing
  3. Eating as little sugar as you possibly can and ideally cutting it out altogether until thrush has gone
  4. Keeping your nipples as clean, dry and aired as possible

Hope it clears quickly for you

YABU. You could leave your DS in the waitng room with the receptionist. That is what I used to do when my DD's were to young to be left at home.

branflake81 · 29/11/2008 07:45

Can;t your son just stay in the reception area while you go and talk to the doctor? Or am I missing something? Seems to be the solution to me.

LadyBuntingofCupcake · 29/11/2008 08:00

I think you are angry with your dh's situation and channeling it into this dilema.

I think your drs could and should help you find a way round this.

However I think your dh being made to feel threatened by redundancy for leaving work 'early' is a disgusting way for a company to operate - I remember that ridiculous work culture was rampant in a company I used to work for (I used to stick two fingers up at it myself).
