You monthly take home is £10,330.

You should rent a nice family house for £1,500.

You should shop at Waitrose and allow £800 for food; household bills allow £500 and travel £500 per month.

With the remaining £7,300 per month you should spend this on holidays, clothes and little luxuries.

If you are still feeling quite hard up it would be helpful to move to an area where you will be surrouonded by people on a tiny fraction of your income.

roffle

VersdeSociete · 27/11/2008 21:27

Well I dunno, Podrick, £800 does not go that far at Waitrose...

Podrick · 27/11/2008 21:29

well I would not go so far as to suggest that this income is high enough to pay for premium brand toilet paper in these credit crunching days

I am willing to take the challenge, where do I sign ???

Will the hubby earning £200k be attractive too or is that a step too far ?

stitch · 27/11/2008 21:33

podrick, you didnt include school fees

teenspirit · 27/11/2008 21:34

Surely on 200k you could afford to shop at m and s for food!!!

HeadFairy · 27/11/2008 21:34

Oooh you can't live in a poor area, all those folk living on just £100k will steal all your stuff

skramble · 27/11/2008 21:34

Oh can I try this .

cory · 27/11/2008 21:35

Katie, you've got the wrong end of the stick. It is not hubby's job to be attractive, it's your job to admire his manly qualities.

YaddaYaddaYadda · 27/11/2008 21:36

Hubby can be unattractive and dull with BO, you must remember you married him for his superior earning power

KatieDD · 27/11/2008 21:36

Oh. Bugger.
I want it all ................

NorthernLurker · 27/11/2008 21:40

Travel £500 a month!!!!! Come on podrick where do you live? Somewhere that buys a chauffeur and limo I suppose but let me tell you - in the real world £500 wouldn't pay for three trips to the hairdresser! I have particular needs which Alberto understands. Of course I would rather not got to Paris everytime but sometimes you just have to square your shoulders and get on with things and so I drag myself over there even though I'd much rather be at home counnting the twenties.

Podrick · 27/11/2008 21:40

well KatieDD the hubby earning £200k is not earning ENOUGH, that is the main point. How attractive he is somewhat irrelevant, surely, I am not sure why you are asking that kind of question when what is really important is will he be able to finance a cleaner for you and whether you will feel embarrassingly penny pinched.

OP posts:
Podrick · 27/11/2008 21:42

stitch it is a bit pointless thinking £200k is going to stretch to school fees when you can't afford quilted toilet roll

lisad123 · 27/11/2008 21:43

wow makes my shopping in aldi @£50 a week, my little house with a huge morgage and my clapped out car seem very bad

YaddaYaddaYadda · 27/11/2008 21:43

Come on now, hubby shouldn't just be financing a cleaner, one also needs a nanny, a cook and a gardener. It's important to have staff otherwise you might have to do something for yourself or look after your own children

cheesesarnie · 27/11/2008 21:45

great tips.will keep in mind.

myredcardigan · 27/11/2008 21:45

I seriously spent £800 last month in Waitrose and DH does not earn 200k.
I do need help.

AnarchyAunt · 27/11/2008 21:45

Well.

If they are really feeling so hard done by they are welcome to my income of £97 a week. I don't even have to work for it as I am just a single parent, albeit a deserving one who did not steal anybody's sperm and is paying her dues to society by volunteering and studying.

KatieDD · 27/11/2008 21:46

Joking aside it seems some women turn violent when the bread winner isn't bringing home enough bread.
I worry for some of the WAG types around here, I genuinely cannot see them or their offspring coping.

Am not sure you can actually afford to have children on £200k these days

If you do choose them then there might have to be unrealistic sacrifices
