in being a tad more than annoyed that Tesco.com no longer accepts my Visa Electron card as a method of payment?

Bloody stupid sodding banks and their petty fecking rules . All the way through the fecking order and suddenly Electron is no longer an accepted method of payment online.

Pissed off beyond belief as I now have to get round Tesco with my distractable Aspergers like son (shopping is a complete nightmare).

Tesco tell me that this is instructions from banks and not their decision. Apparently it is very acceptable for me to pay in store just not online. Aaaagggghhhhhh!!!!!!

Pants. Why oh why? Some places I see do not take solo/electron OR switch ie. only credit cards. No wonder we are having a fecking recession.

hmmm how bizarre.
I actually loathe tesco. and this gives me one more reason to.

will sainsburys deliver to you? things like that make me think well, f**k you then, you won't get my money.
and I would go out of my way to go somewhere else

JollyPirate · 27/11/2008 18:55

Aha - good old Sainsburys - took my card - no problem - cheaper than Tesco and deliverinbg quicker. (smug emoticon). Stick that one in yer pipe Tesco.

mwahahah. and you should let them know that too. write to their head office and tell them to go stick it

onager · 27/11/2008 19:19

I'm surprised that sainsbury let you use it. I had one of those and it was useless. Maybe that changed it a bit, but I was told you couldn't use it unless you were physically there to show them the card.

NewspiritsFromOldghosts · 27/11/2008 19:24

You don't have to be there with your card anymore but some companies refuse to change their policy. I complained to Tesco about it and they wrote back to me with a £10 voucher.

whoingodsnamewasi · 27/11/2008 19:25

I stopped shopping with them for this reason, grrr.

But if its the banks decision why do they allow you to use it at Sainsburys over the net and many other places?

nancy75 · 27/11/2008 21:10

i am surprised you can use electron over the net, it used to be that the number on the front was not the whole card number, which could only be accessed by swiping the magnetic strip/chip. i know that when i worked in a shop we could never type in an electron card if it wouldnt swipe fro this reason

Lilybeto · 27/11/2008 21:16

I have an electron, I can use it on the internet for most shops. The only problem I've had is that British Airways don't take them More fool them. I just spend my money elsewhere!

Yeah I remember when I used to work in retail Solo and Electron cards weren't perceived to be as "good" as even other debit cards (ie Visa Delta/Switch/Maestro), I think it was bacause Electron cards aren't generally cheque guarantee cards like Delta and so on were. I know that when I had an Electron card I found it most annoying that many places wouldn't tak them.

cremolafoam · 27/11/2008 22:10

i have just applied for a visa electron as it is the only way to avoid Ryanair payment charges.Fot this reason I suspect they will be making a comeback soon.

JollyPirate · 28/11/2008 08:41

On the whole I am happy with my Electron card. My bank offer to "upgrade" it every now and then but to be honest I haven't seen the need (until now!). Does everything I want it to do.

DH used to be able to use his in some places and not others, larger places take it. And online the same, some places do, some do not. He has not upgraded to a 'grown-up' account as he calls it, just to stop the hassle of it.

Its not a Bank decision, otherwise you would not be able to use it in some places and not others. What Tesco mean is they are probably charged a fee for its use or something, so its their decision.
