OK, my cat's normally goes in and out during the day.... this morning came downstairs and one of them has got some tinsel sort of stuff hanging out of his bum... basically he's eaten some tinsel type of stuff (he's an odd cat i know) and he's half pooed it out (sorry if TMI) the other half is stuck inside his bum still... before DH left for work he held him and i got marigolds on and tried to pull the rest out, but its basically stuck till he next needs to 'go' i expect.

I dotn want him sitting in the house with some poo-ey minging tinsel hanging out of his bum so have thrown him out for the day.... its been raining pretty hard, and he's been meowing at the front and back doors all day!!! He can get into the shed so has some shelter....

However i'm starting to feel sorry for the poor bugger... AIBU to leave him out for nearly 10hrs solid now???

well..... just let him into the kitchen, i was armed with scissors... had to shout him to get him to come as he'd gone to sit in the shed...

Lots of what was their this morning has been pooed out, there were 2 strings of it hanging out, maybe by about 3 quarters... so i have cut the hanging bits and he seems fine, just glad to be inside..

I will obviously be keeping a close eye on him, but as lots has obviously come out already i think he'll be ok.

and also sparkle FWIW he hasn't been meowing 'Like Mad'.... he's been meowing at the back door when he see's me in the kitchen, and at the front door for about 5/10mins a couple of times throguh the day... he's only been meowing like he normally would to be let inside.

should add that normally he'll be let in after 1 or 2 meows... so it seems like he's meowing loads more!!

I commented after reading your post that said .....''its been raining pretty hard, and he's been meowing at the front and back doors all day!!! He can get into the shed so has some shelter....''

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 27/11/2008 18:46

ok so maybe my OP exagerated a little... he was meowing at the time, and had been for the last 5mins or so before i posted so was getting a little drowned by meows!!

The cat is now asleep on the window-sil... seems fine!! however the sight of the 1 inch pieces of tinsel hanging out his bum is amusing to the DC's!!

I am sorry but did anyone else ROFL when they read the OP? My Kids came to see what i was laughing at (I did NOT tell them!!)

I am a cat owner too and of course I hope your moggy is OK but the thought of tinselly bits hanging out of a cats bum..!!!!

Sorry, but it cheered up a dull day!

our dog when i was a kid was always eating clothes, mainly socks and nix, but he was always sick, never pooed them out. And he was a big dog so probably less likely to do himself harm inside IYSWIM

don't think YABU shutting kitty out though, he might not be fully in control, IYKWIM, and you can't have accidents with LOs about.

Mumi · 27/11/2008 19:04

You could've taken it to the vets the 10 hours you'd left it outside for and if you can't afford a call-out vet by the time it occurs to you that it may need one, then maybe you should reconsider having a cat at all.
YABU (you did ask).

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 27/11/2008 19:14

I didn't think it'd need the vets, just thought it'd come out in is poo during the day.

His bum looks clean so i dont think he's been having any trouble with pooing... He's walkign round fine, sitting on my lap ok, and generally acting like normal.

We can afford an emergency vet if we really really needed one, but it'd be the last of our current 'savings'... had to use the rest a few weeks ago to fix the central heating... didn't expect the cat to eat someones tinsel.

lilstarry1 · 27/11/2008 19:20

I am glad he's mostly tinsel free, I have two deranged cats who would also love to eat tinsel given half a chance.

Not sure why it's cruel to put him outside... cats are meant to be out and about, surely? I would make the assumption if he were poorly he'd very clearly let you know.

I am clearly the worst cat owner in the world, ours go out all day, snow, rain, whatever! I let them in for dinner in the evening and spend much of the time shooing them from the back door because they want to go back out. Isn't that normal kitty behaviour?

Pfft at all these pampered pussies never leaving the house!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 27/11/2008 19:25

HE'S JUST POOED THE LAST BITS OUT!!!!!!!! wuhoo!!

hopefully thats it all out of his system now!!

Since he came inside he's not meowed once (which i'm sure he would do if he was in pain) has been sat purring away, and has eaten and drank soem water- he seems 100% normal!! Will still keep an eye on him, and get my mum to while she's cat sitting them during tomorrow evening and saturday daytime!!

I have a dog that eats carpet when she's feeling poorly - can't remember how many times that habit has resulted in lumps of poo dangling from her bum by lengths of wool that have to be coaxed from their hideyhole with a gentle tug !!

Have also had a 4 year old with a poo dangling from his bum on a long hair of mine !!

GentleOtter · 27/11/2008 20:44

Fabio's 'festive bum' comment has me in stitches

Glad the cat is ok.

MsPontipine · 27/11/2008 21:02

The joys of Christmas! Ah tinsel-bum - I remember it well! I remember one lovely Christmas morning dealing with one cat with tinsel-bum the other one - just random sick - before I could get off to parents to start the festivities.

tinkisahugexmaspudding · 28/11/2008 10:18

glad cat ok now glas.
there is nothing wrong with the way that she treated her cat why is there always some people that have to come in all guns blazing

babymt · 28/11/2008 18:01

Similar thing happened to my cat. The minging grossness that was hanging out of her rear end still turns my stomach so YAfedNBU. At the end of the day its a cat. Not a person. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Sounds a very cruel thing to leave the cat in that state and i wholeheartedly agree with mumi. To think this is funny when the cat could be in pain beggers belief babymt it is a living creature and I can well believe cruelty to animals in this country is on the increase after that crass statement of yours

thenewme · 30/11/2008 16:57
