to get annoyed with DP being such a light sleeper

We moved into our house in January since then he has slept in our lovely new bed approx 10 times. Because the man upstairs snores.

It wakes him up in the middle of the night. I've listened for it and if I lie really still I can hear it but to actually be woken up by it?!

I don't think there's much he can do about it so no point in my actually getting grumpy with him but it really bothers me How much does it cost to soundproof a room?

I'm a very light sleeper, and can hear the tiniest noise. Irritating for my dp, but can't be helped.

YABU. He can't help it, just like he can't help having blue eyes or whatever. I find earplugs help[ a bit (until they start to hurt my ears)

VinegarTits · 26/11/2008 15:29

The man upstairs? is there a house on top of your house?

prettybutterfly · 26/11/2008 15:30

I'm nutty about light - I need total darkness or I wake up. I'm very annoying too!

Is there another room you could sleep in? Swap with the kids? Or something?

Get him to try ear plugs?

Doesn't seem fair to be annoyed at DP though - he can't help it!

YABU - as a fellow light sleeper I know what it's like!

I have the opposite problem, DH is a very heavy sleeper so never wakes up when ds cries!

Othersideofthechannel · 26/11/2008 15:50

Why does it bother you that he wakes up in the middle of the night?

I am a light sleeper but it never bothers DH that I am not sleeping (unless I have less than 5 hours sleep and am a jibbering wreck the next day!)

NinaMyers · 27/11/2008 12:20

VinegarTits - yes it's flat, I always describe it as a house cos it feels like a house, it isn't part of a block iyswim?

It bothers me because we don't share a bed, he sleeps on the couch almost all of the time. We've just decorated the whole house so would really have to redecorate if we were to swap rooms with DD. He was on the couch for the first few months after we moved in (while we were decorating) cos I was pregnant and breathed too heavily for him to sleep near me so we didn't know about the snoring man till it was too late.

Well AIBU to be annoyed at MIL for tiptoeing round the house when DP was a baby?!

Oh and he doesn't like earplugs...

I was about to suggest swapping rooms. Could you swap with the living room assuming that has more neutral decor? If the front door goes into that room, you could always block it off with curtains and use the back door... bit of a PITA but if it bugs you that much. It would certainly annoy me if DP never slept in our bed 'cos he couldn't sleep.

NinaMyers · 27/11/2008 13:11

We've got an open plan livingroom/kitchen thing

I've heard that people use white noise to block out other sounds it might drive me insane but I get so cold and lonely on my own [pathetic emoticon]

He may gt used to it if he perseveres.

When we moved into our house the traffc outside kept me awake for the first few months. I never hear it now
