to think that DH spends far to long on a computer game/Lord of the Rings?

Following on from another thread my DH has spent nearly all this weekend on Lord of the Rings.

I have been unwell so fair enough I got to have a lie in both days and he cooked meals all weekend and looked after the children.

I just don't see the attraction.
He just sems to be running round the screen hacking away at pieces of rock.

He is in his forties and come rather late to computer games, maybe that is it,he is catchinh up on lost time.

Does he play it every weekend? if he is and not doing his share of duties then no yanbu

I can see the attraction, i love playing games and was hooked on tomb raider anniversary on my wii, so each to their own.

'He just sems to be running round the screen hacking away at pieces of rock'

rofl!!

it would pee me off though. i can't take dp ebaying forever, typing with one finger

hottotrot · 24/11/2008 15:44

He does play most weekends and some evenings until late.
He plays it in the spare room and has been known just to surface for the toilet and to eat and drink.

I just don't see the big attraction and he really gets into it and is over joyed when he reaches the next level.

It is a tad annoying when I go up to ask him something and he does'nt even take his eyes off the screen when answering me.

I reckon he is addicted.

i can see my dh starting a identical thread but replacing 'lord of the rings' for mumsnet.

VictorianSqualor · 24/11/2008 15:49

I can see both sides.

DP used to play a star wars game until the developers fluffed it by changing it. Now some other developers have been rebuilding the game as it was at the beginning. He has been extremely excited about this.

We got WAR and both play it about the same amount, time flies so easily when playing it andboth of us will happily say 'You done on there now?' if we get fed up so no problems.

DP has now started playing the new SWG and it bores me to tears.

So, YANBU to be bored of it but how does he react if you ask him to stop?

VictorianSqualor · 24/11/2008 15:50

Ah, I've just seen "He plays it in the spare room and has been known just to surface for the toilet and to eat and drink."
That would piss me off. We've purposely got our pooter in the living room so no-one 'disappears'.

I could start an identical thread aside from the game as my dh is a player of Everquest.

He sits in his 'study' playing EQ while watching footy and playing music on youtube on his 3 computers - which he needs apparently - but he works hard, has a long commute needs to wind down - blah blah blah... am I sounding bitter? I am not bitter... (she says while twitching and huffing).

Anyway - you are not being unreasonable!

VictorianSqualor · 24/11/2008 16:10

I just tell myself that my ex was a violent drug taking alcoholic cheat so SWG isn't really a problem.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 24/11/2008 16:22

Good point VS - I am still entitled to irritation but its certainly not a deal breaker as far as our relationship is concerned - iyswim?

VictorianSqualor · 24/11/2008 16:24

Yeah, that's how I see it.
It's fucking annoying at times, as are wet towels on beds and tea mugs on window sills

bigmouthstrikesagain · 24/11/2008 16:28

And leaving socks and pants on the bedroom floor

hottotrot · 24/11/2008 16:51

OH yes sleepycat-mines of moria.

DH was updating it this weekend.

I even heard him say to DS maybe mum would buy me this for christmas.

Apparently you can't just leave the game if you are in the middle of helping someone on a quest even if your dinner is ready

I'm sooooo glad dh has banned ds (14) from all online games. He'd be exactly the same.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 25/11/2008 14:07

DH is addicted to either his DS lite or his Xbox 360.... if its not one its the other!!

And every day off he'll sit in the living room on it, hearing me trying to cope with the kids and barely doing anything... actually he doesn't really DO anything... then when i ask him to help DD up the stairs to the toilet or to get the DC's a juice or something he'll say 'in a minute' and it never gets done... i have been known to unplug his xbox to get his attention... and am currently considering taking the battery out of his DS and screwing it back so he thinks its broke!!- i may get some more attention in the evenings that way!!
