to not iron the DS's clothes to take to exH's this weekend, and instead do it all tonight?

He's picking them up between 5 and 6pm. I have a mountain of ironing, and they have no clean and ironed clothes to take with them. I was going to do some ironing this afternoon - but DS3 fell asleep in his pushchair in town earlier - and there's no way he will go back to sleep now.

Should I just put the stuff unironed into their bag and tell exH that as we've all been ill (the DS's particularly not well) I've simply not had a chance to do it??

I'd send it un ironed. If exH wants them to wear ironed clothes then he can iron them himself.

cupsoftea · 21/11/2008 13:34

Will he notice & complain? The clothes are clean - surely this is ok. If he likes them ironed then could he do it?

BouncingTurtle · 21/11/2008 13:34

It'll only get creased in the bag anyway! LEt him do it!

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 21/11/2008 13:35

well I like them to wear ironed clothes too - but I just can't see me getting it done now with DS3 being up and awake.

Ironing clothes for a young child is a waste of time imo unless it is for a wedding, etc.

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 21/11/2008 13:36

oh he's bound to notice that's for sure (as would I lol) - but if I tell him that I've not ironed them then he can't complain (and I don't think he would especially when I explain that they've all been ill this week).

thenewme - well my oldest two aren't really that young - 8, and nearly 5 - and I@m sat here cringing at DS3 (who is nearly 18 month) seeing creases all over his top because I took it straight off the airer and put it onto him without ironing )

Will the ones they have worn over the weekend come back to you washed and ironed?

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 21/11/2008 13:39

no they won't - but there will only be 1 or 2 sets for each of them (As DS1 and 2 will wear the same stuff tomorrow as they do today) - so not really enough to stick the washing machine on for (well I wouldn't anyhow!)

It clearly bothers you so do what will make you less cringey.

cupsoftea · 21/11/2008 13:41

Leave it! - step away from the ironing board. Fold it in the bag & it will be fine.

crokky · 21/11/2008 13:44

OMG. You need to quit ironing for little children. Neither of mine have EVER worn anything that HAS been ironed!

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 21/11/2008 13:47

lol cups - I haven't even got the ironing board out yet - if I'm going to do any this afternoon it involved clearing the kitchen worktops (and floor - to make space to do it out there instead in here.

I shall leave it all until tonight and just explain to exH that they've been ill - I'm 99.99% he won't say a word as I did him a massive favour last week so he's on extra good behaviour.

Sorry Crokky - I will be ironing it all tonight - toddler clothes included. I can't bear opening the drawers and seeing creased clothes. (there's not much I'm fussy about around the house but unironed clothes in drawers is a big thing for me lol)

Hope you have a cup of tea first GuyfawmkesreQ

I iron my kids clothes lol but I wish that their cupboards looked more organised - ahhhh

Clary · 21/11/2008 13:51

Ah FAQ I'm with you on the ironing.

My iron broke once and I couldn't replace it for a week. In the end DS1 had to go to school in an unironed polo

But in this case no, can't iron with an 18mo there anyhoo.

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 21/11/2008 13:54

oh I shall put my feet up with a cup of coffee as soon as they leave - and probably go and buy chips for myself from the chippy down the road for my dinner

Gosh - I either hang mine with lots of shaking out first and fold neatly or out of the tumble drier and fold and none of them ever need ironing!! Can't imagine the tedium of THAT many items to iron. Does he not have clothes for them at his house? Plus - what on earth COULD he say? ".. they're not getting into my car until they're wearing some beautifully pressed clothes..."????? No need to give a reason guyfawkes!

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 21/11/2008 13:57

Lakelover - no he doesn't have clothes for them at his house as he's in a shared house - so not enough space for most of his stuff, let alone extra stuff for 3 DS's. (although he is hopefully moving soon to a place on his own which should make is easier for him). Which reminds me when he does (hopefully) I must remember to get him to come and take his 15 odd boxes of stuff out of the attic

OP posts:
guyFAwkesreQuiem · 21/11/2008 13:59

oh and no I don't buy the "fold straight out of the tumbler drier" thing either - they don't look as nice as if they're ironed - and I know as we did that at work and I always cringed when I took the baskets of laundry round in the mornings and put the stuff away at "crinkled" stuff going into the drawers.

OP posts:
Lakelover · 21/11/2008 14:07

Point taken about the space, he obviously doesn't have enough room at present! I guess some things just bother some people more than others. I have a clean washing smell obsession - as long as the clothes are clean and smell nice, I don't really mind if they're a wee bit wrinkled! Saying that though ds is only 2 and a bit, so perhaps not quite the same!

What's an iron?
