We're going out tonight, and DH pointed me at the website for the karaoke place, so I could see what music there was.

There's no Belle and Seb. There's no Public Enemy. There's no Liz Phair or PJ Harvey. Grrr.

The whole point of karaoke is that you sings songs that everyone recognises so they can hear just how much you have murdered the original.

No point trying to be alternative about it.

xtc - www.hiphopkaraokelondon.blogspot.com/

it happens! LOL

NotQuiteCockney · 21/11/2008 10:09

I think the one we're going to is pretty non-standard - at least, I'm told there aren't long lists of songs in Korean.
Ah, right, 'Fame'. Hmmm.

you are going tot he wrong place

we wnet with the girls from choir and sang 70s rock and 90s indie till our ears bled

Pinkjenny · 21/11/2008 10:12

Fame. And also Flashdance and Footloose. My friend kept saying (drunk): 'This is the happiest I've ever been in my whole life.'

NotQuiteCockney · 21/11/2008 10:12

I think there's some 90s indie at this - wait, where did you go? Was it London, or Somewhere Else?

(Oh, there is Goldie Looking Chain. Looking forward to that ...)

NotQuiteCockney · 21/11/2008 10:14

Yeah, last time we went, it was the day of my DSes birthday party (50+ kids, total zoo, my house, my food, etc etc). Then we stayed out until 2:30 in the morning doing karaoke and the water seemed v expensive and the wine, less so. I puked the next day, and was gravelly-voiced for a week.

I'm taking water tonight!

I love Ani Defranco, cannot imagine doing Ani Karoake though!

noonki · 21/11/2008 10:19

Fight the Power!

I can't imagine anything worse than Public enemy being destroyed by Karaoke.

MrsBadger · 21/11/2008 10:45

it was London, probably Soho

I was ver' ver' drunk though

NotQuiteCockney · 21/11/2008 11:05

Am at the idea of drunken karaoke.

It may well have been the same place, then. Lucky Voice?

I honestly can't remember - someone else organised it, we met in a bar then went there

it was... blue

don't think it was as plush as Lucky Voice

NotQuiteCockney · 21/11/2008 11:16

Fair enough.

No, Gloria Gaynor isn't white but she's the sort of Black music white people like. (ditto Jimi Hendrix, although I doubt he features much on karaoke lists.)
