To be bloody annoyed at the woman at the childrens centre..

MY DC and i go to a lovely local childrens centre a couple of times a week, its fab, loads to do,lovely staff, all free and the kids love it.
Went today and there was a new lady working there.
As usual the kids all had a snack, toast and a drink, all hunky dory, then it came to clearing the beakers and plates away.
There are signs up in the kitchen asking everyone to wash their cups etc up which is fine, usually one of us mums just gets on with it,no fuss.
Today after snacktime the sink was full of cups ,the new lady came marching out of the kitchen saying loudly that she had already washed up once and wasnt going to do it again and couldnt we read the signs,it was supposed to be a home from home etc etc.
She then proceeded to go round each room thrusting one of the signs in our faces again exclaiming loudly how it wasnt on and noone was leaving til we had all done it blah blah blah. She made a comment to one of the other staff members about whipping our asses into shape then -and this is the bit that really wound me up-got a few of the buggies parked in the indoor pram park and put them across the gate to block the exit again saying noone was leaving til it was done
Now dont get me wrong i dont have a problem at all with washing up as long as someone is prepared to watch my 9 month old and 2 and a half year old-there are lots of activities such as painting, water, sand plus older toys that could be dangerous that i wouldnt want them to be doing unsupervised-plus there are also signs up saying that children are the responsibility of their parent/carer.
So ,am i being unreasonable to think the way this woman went about it was out of order, there are better ways of making a point that dont include causing a fire hazard and that if she wants us to wash up she could bloody well ask us nicely rather than speaking to us like idiots?

God she went a bit over the top didnt she!
Where do you live? or rather do you live near me? the reason i ask is because i was going to be going to a group in stamford at the childrens centre and apparently they do toast for the children.
I didnt go though - partly because i wasnt feeling great, partly because i chickened out

Leeka · 21/11/2008 00:10

Quite obviously, no YANBU, but why on earth are you even bothering to ask, are you doubting the answer?

bonnycat · 21/11/2008 00:46

Mum2oliverjames,hope you are feeling better soon,i know what you mean about chickening out but if its anything like our group its full of lovely people from all walks of life who made me feel very welcome- i think thats why this morning came as such a shock!
Our centre is in Yorkshire.

Leeka, im asking because im thinking of going in to "have a word " with them about the whole thing but wanted to see if im overreacting...

get her to block the fire exit again and then set the alarm off - then all yell you're going to die because some wench has blocked the exit.

As OTT as she was - but a bit fun too!

She's a bit barmy; I'd have a word with her boss!

Fiveplusbump · 21/11/2008 09:15

She sounds like a loon .I would have a word with the managers all she is going to do is stop people who are not very confident in the first place coming to the centre.

pokeydot · 21/11/2008 11:46

Home from home????

how many of you have some strangely demented anal woman shouting at you if you leave a few pots about your kitchen!!??

onthewarpath · 21/11/2008 12:03

Shame, she will put people off comming back to the Centre.

squeaver · 21/11/2008 12:06

She's clearly a loon but at least you'll all have someone to talk about next time you're there.
