headphones in ears
I call them for tea...no reply
i asked a question...no reply

yesterday a boy walked in front of car and I narrowly missed him and yes he had earphones in

I would like other opinions on this

I am considering taking this to our LEA
ensuring awareness of earphones especially when the can not hear the dangers around them

that could describe my ds(15) though, and he hasn't got an ipod

onthewarpath · 19/11/2008 10:41

Didn't we just do the same with less technology advanced devices when we were teens?

I had a walkman.

Nothing's changed really - just the technology has become more compact.

cyteen · 19/11/2008 12:01

hey, don't discriminate against us ipod-wearing adults - we can be just as useless and unaware as any teenager!

LovesTents · 19/11/2008 12:04

Hey I love my ipod!
Don't think it's any different from walkmans really.

nametaken · 19/11/2008 14:06

Look on the bright side. It works both ways. If the kids are whining and moaning, if the babys crying if the dh is shouting - just pop your Ipod in and you can't hear them either. It's great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the mothers on the school run this morning told me she's buying her daughter an Ipod for Christmas. Daughter is 5!

I disapprove because of the risk to her hearing. How can you rely on a 5yo not to turn the volume up too high? Once you've killed off those cells, they never regrow.

MadamePlatypus · 19/11/2008 14:12

DS has one of DH's cast off ipods for downloading of cbeebies/story podcasts on long car journeys. However, we all listen to it - he doesn't use headphones. I don't think he would be particularly excited about getting one as a Christmas present - would rather have lego.

But really it sounds as though headphones are the problem, not mp3 players.

Huh? Ipods making children dangerous? Depends what they're listening I would imagine.

smartiejake · 19/11/2008 14:28

Agree they can be a real hazard as they make kids unaware of dangers they would hear.

The dangers from hearing damage should also not be underestimated. A huge number of todays youngsters are going to have quite serious hearing losses by the age of 30 if they continue listening at the volume many of them do now.

Are recent survey found that many kids are listening to their ipods at over 100dB which is the same volume as being in close proximity to a jet engine.

I just brought my Godchild one for her Birthday she is 8. There is an advert to make children aware of crossing the road. I think Ipod's are fab I know longer have to listen the people in my office But I do sing out loud sometimes
