lady : would you like to try some?

me: no thanks, i'm driving (had ds2 9 months in trolley)

lady: oh, it's ok, it's only 3%, 1 bottle is the equivalent to half a lager. you can drink one and still drive with your kids in car, you'll be fine.

me: urm....no thanks.

was a bit shocked tbh. i know it was only a tiny wee bit, but still couldn't quite believe my ears!

How big was the sample?

TrinityRhino · 15/11/2008 13:32

was probably a mouthful

really joosey...breathe

DoNotAsfinishedXmasshopping · 15/11/2008 13:32

She was factually correct....you could have had a free sample of vodka in the volumes they typically give out and you would still have been legally able to drive.

However she should not have questioned you. You made a choice. There was no need for her to question it.

jooseyfruit · 15/11/2008 13:32

it was teeny tiny not enough to get a gerbil pissed, but she was suggesting that i could drink a whole bottle of the stuff and still be o.k to drive.

2point4kids · 15/11/2008 13:33

If one whole bottle is equivalent to half a lager then the thimble sized testers probably only leave margially more alcohol in your blood than water!

posieflump · 15/11/2008 13:33

don't get why were you so shocked?

TrinityRhino · 15/11/2008 13:33

you still would be legally able t o drive

she said nothing wrong
its your choice

BoffinMum · 15/11/2008 13:34

It sounds OK, I would probably have tried it even though I am not much of a drinker myself, having fairly low tolerance. Even I can manage half a lager and get my kids home in the car from the supermarket - I have a worse reaction to too many strong coffees, frankly.

elliott · 15/11/2008 13:34

ACtually I agree. I don't think supermarkets should be endorsing free samples of alcohol (however small) to people who are driving.

jooseyfruit · 15/11/2008 13:36

i know, i maybe do need to get a bit of a grip.
i think i was surprised that the message she was giving out was that it's o.k to drink and drive.

OP posts:
BoffinMum · 15/11/2008 13:36

I think that's a little puritanical myself. I would hate the UK to end up like the US in their utterly paranoid fear of alcohol. Nobody is going to wrap their car around a lampost on the basis of a thimble full of wine or whatever.

TheProvincialLady · 15/11/2008 13:39

Let's hope no one is handing out free samples of chocolate liquers then!

(Actually let's really hope that because they are absolutely vile)

RainbowChaser · 15/11/2008 13:43

YABU!

Dior · 15/11/2008 13:46

Message withdrawn

southeastastra · 15/11/2008 13:48

i don't thin yabu, if i drank that on an empty stomach it would probably make me feel a bit sloshed

StealthPolarBear · 15/11/2008 13:55

I know what you mean but the sample sizes are usually tiny. WHat if it had been a slice of Christmas cake? (Is that the same??)
Agree though that when you'd made your feelings clear she shouldn't have pestered you.
Lucky you though - I usually have to ask at these sample things and feel like a school child trying to get a freebie (which I am )

mm22bys · 15/11/2008 15:02

No she shouldn't have pushed you. I think though her first two sentences were fine, but then it's up to you to judge if you'd be OK to drive!
