.........to drive more carefully and not in the gutter when it is pissing down with rain and sending tidal waves of water over my 3 DC and me

Isnt it illegal to do that now?

lauraloola · 13/11/2008 22:57

BTW - YANBU.

MrsGokWan · 13/11/2008 23:07

Is it illegal?

What can be done about it?

Walked up to collect eldest from school and the cars coming down the hill were not even slowing down and as each one came past it was like a tidal wave of water. The cars behind could see what was happening and still did the same. On the way back it was exactly the same.

The road is a mess anyway where it has been dug up so many times and the mended tarmac has sunk and there is no drains so it runs down in streams along the edge.

no YANBU - I was FURIOUS with DH when he did this to someone the other day - he was showing off cos his cousin was in the car as well and they both sniggered like bloody schoolboys after drenching this poor jogger.

glitterball · 13/11/2008 23:42

YANB even the slightest bit U

the road that leads to the station here always has a huge puddle in it whenever it rains....its a dead end so every time a car comes past me i almost mentally dare them to splash me just so i can catch up with them at the bottom of the road to vent my annoyance

however thus far all the drivers have v carefully driven round it & havent been splashed at all

MrsGokWan · 13/11/2008 23:44

The thing that got me as well is they are mainly mothers going to pick up their children from school as well. Just by slowing down they could stop this. But oh no they have to rush to get to school early so they can sit and wait for they're DC to get out of school.

MrsGokWan · 13/11/2008 23:47

Ooops! posted message before I had finished there. Meant to say

Sit and wait for they're DC to come out of school at the front of the car park and not have to wait a few extra minutes to get out of said car park.

YANBU. Some people seem to do it deliberately, and it's particularly unpleasant for a toddler in a pushchair.

CocoaCloset · 14/11/2008 00:00

Why not complain to the council - drivers are always going to be sods.

goodasgold · 14/11/2008 00:00

I have to walk a gauntlet every time it rains. YANBU.

CocoaCloset · 14/11/2008 00:01

Complain about the state of the road/drains obv. Don't think they can do much about the drivers

MrsGokWan · 14/11/2008 09:19

I complained last winter when I lived on the other side of the hill and it is still like it. They say they are short of funds.

I think another strongly worded letter to the council AND my town counciler is in order.

Ok you might be being unreasonable. As long as there wasn't a car coming the other way so it wouldn't have been dangerous for them to avoid the puddle then YANBU but if it was dangerous then YABU.

A head on car crash would be alot worse than you getting a bit wet.

sunnygirl1412 · 14/11/2008 10:32

At ds2's senior school, it's a well known pastime amongst him and his friends to go and stand in a huge puddle at the back of the school in the hopes that a car will drive through it and soak them.

Best case they end up with soaking shoes for the rest of the day - worst case they end up soaked to the skin for the rest of the day - typical teenage twit-ness.

When I'm driving in the wet, and there are pedestrians around, I will either avoid the puddle if I can do so safely, or I will drive through as slowly as possible to avoid the tidal wave situation.

However, if there's no-one around to be soaked, I do like driving through the puddles and making a big wave - ds1 sighs and asks, 'How old are you, mum?'

needmorecoffee · 14/11/2008 14:15

they don't have to drive fast through a puddle so it splashes.

MrsGokWan · 14/11/2008 14:59

My point exactly NMC they do not have to drive through fast they can slow down through the puddles. It is pure ignorance and very discourteous. Also it is a very wide road so they do not need to be so close to the kerb. There is no path on the other side for the other drivers to be aware of.

Have written my letter now so will see what happens.
