To pluck hairs off my legs?

I've gotten into a wierd habit

A few months ago I tried to wax my legs but it was terrible and left a complete mess and a rash. So I've been using crappy razors to keep the skin smooth but its EVERY BLOODY DAY!

Anyway, the other night I was in the bath, plucking my eyebrows and just out of curiousity, I plucked a tiny hair off my leg...and then another...and then I was completely addicted and when I'd finished, I realised I'b been in the bath plucking leg hairs for almost 2 hours!

Bonus is, my legs feel so much smoother....downside is, it takes bloody ages and is probably a bit wierd?

Try an epliator (sp?) they do the same thing and are alot quicker.

Get one of those torture instruments epilator thingies

Lionstar · 12/11/2008 13:55

I'll fess up to being a leg plucker! However I only get the thick black ones around my ankles, everywhere else is pretty fine and can't really see them (though bikini area is another matter ).

When I first started a few years ago I went though a routine of plucking 20 on each leg every morning. I just stuck with that and very soon was barely having to do any at all. Now I get almost no regrowth, I check maybe once every 2 weeks and even then often don't have any to pluck. Legs are lovely and smooth and don't get the chicken skin effect that I used to get with shaving.

tigi · 12/11/2008 14:01

I pluck chin hairs - will they go away too?

MrsSnape · 12/11/2008 14:02

oh they hurt around the ankle though!

MrsSnape have you tried Veet. I dont think your weird I have done that as well plucked my leg hair out but then veet saved me You just put it on and shower it off

bronze · 12/11/2008 14:05

I've done my legs too in the past. I also pluck my bikini line.
I have an epilator but find the plucking less painful. Its just time consuming.
It is fab though as you can pluck out the odd hairs as they grow back if you keep on top of it and have permanently smooth legs.

wehaveallbeenthere · 12/11/2008 14:08

MrsSnape, have you checked this out? www.conair.com for the Hair removal system.
It is an electric sander (rotating sanding pad) for your legs that is totally painless. It takes a little practice around knees and ankles but after cutting myself shaving I've found this to be wonderful. Just be careful to tie your hair on your head back so as not to get it in the spin.

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 12/11/2008 14:09

If you use an epliator when your skin is warm (out of the shower/bath) then it does not hurt as much. Your pores are more open.

wehaveallbeenthere · 12/11/2008 14:10

For the bikini line I'm going to be trying out a NoNo soon. I just haven't had the time to take it out of the box and read it yet.

themoon66 · 12/11/2008 14:23

I'm with Lionstar and Bronze.... little and often. Result - smooth legs all the time. I occasionally tackle bikini area, but find it gives me a crik in the neck after 10 mins or so!

DaphneMoon · 12/11/2008 15:05

Try having thick dark hair (I'm half scottish). Nightmare! Veet says leave on 5 minutes, I can leave on 15 and it still does not remove it all. If I plucked out 20 hairs a day I think I would be at it years! .

twoluvlykids · 12/11/2008 15:10

Be aware of ingrowing hairs afterwards - I used to do this (Gawd it's like Alcoholics Anon here - I'm twoluvlykids and I pluck out my hairs), anyway, I had the mama of all ingrowing one afterwards on my calf, which I didn't notice, until one day it burst out in the bath, it was long, black, curled up like a little fist and I had a hole in my calf for months, and still have the scar 20 odd years later.

(Now its turning into "Alien - the Return of the Hair"!)

twoluvlykids · 12/11/2008 15:10

Phew, after that, I think I'll go and have a bag of crisps....

Salleroo · 12/11/2008 15:17

I'm a plucker too

Salleroo · 12/11/2008 15:17

I'm a plucker too

missmama · 12/11/2008 15:45

Couldn't see it on your link wehaveallbeenthere but I have something similar from Babyliss
www.amazon.co.uk/BaByliss-8790U-Simply-Smooth-Remover/dp/B0000ULKWM

wehaveallbeenthere · 12/11/2008 17:21

YES!! missmama. I guess Conair doesn't carry it anymore. That is the exact one. Takes less than a minute to do both legs (after you get the hang of it) and the hair does grow back finer and finer. I have very thick dark hair. No cuts, no knicks...no every day shaving.
It's really wonderful..I've introduced it to my 12 year old as she is not ready for a shaver (handling one, she has the hair to shave though). Much safer and lasts longer. No ingrown hairs either.

ChillyTilly · 12/11/2008 18:17

I've been randomly plucking on my legs, and using one of those Braun Silk Epils as well. I've noticed that where I've plucked I don't have as many hairs anymore. So I think it possibly works better than the gadgets.

BitOfFun · 12/11/2008 18:23

Oh, bane of my life, hair removal! Wish I could afford laser

ingrown hairs, rashes, dark epping forest-like growth within hours...I could go on

LuLuBai · 12/11/2008 20:10

Oooooh ROFL at twoluvvlykids and her alien hair.

I used to pluck idly while listening to the radio when I was a student and had oodles of time on my hands. These days I am much busier MNing looking after DD so I epilate (a little less frequently than I ought to) and get a proper salon wax for special occasions.

onthewarpath · 12/11/2008 20:57

staying in bath for two hours.. sounds like a pretty good idea to me... not sure about plucking hair though.
