to really not like having that NSPCC advert on my screen all the time

Its the one that shoes the little girl sat on her bed looking a bit scared.

I'm not trying to bury my head in the sand. Infact I actually donate to NSPCC every month by DD.

But I do think the ad is a bit too much. Because of experiences I had when I was a child, it makes me feel really uncomftable every time it pops up. Almost like it brings old feelings back.

That would be the "raising awareness" that you pay the NSPCC for

Its not that simple though is it!

The trauma of abuse doens't leave you once you are an adult and having that pop up all the time makes me want to turn of the computer. It gives me a horrid sick feeling in my stomach that I get when I think about my childhood.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't have adverts but they should also be sensitive to the feelings of the people who might see them.

I don't like any of their adverts expecially since the times they are shown is not monitored and they are on while small children could see them and they are rather upsetting. I would much rather see children who they had helped who now had happier lives. Again not putting my head in the sand but can't help but feel that childline who I have never seen advetise (apart from the stickers) probably do more to help.

disagree. their ads need to atract attention and provoke a reaction.
Unfortunately your reaction is unpleasant for you.

stirfry · 10/11/2008 19:55

Why do they have to portray images of abuse though???

Are we all so ignorant that we don't know what they mean when they talk about child abuse?

Do we really need it spelt out so grafically to have empathy? Surely not???

If I told you that every year 1000's of children are abused in their homes by the very people who are surpose to love and care for them. Would that make you feel less for these poor children than if I actually showed you an image that portrayed a child being abused???

If you don't want to see them, use an adblocker.

morningpaper · 10/11/2008 20:02

I agree with you

The girl sitting on her bed is horrid and unecessary

Sorry but we all know what abuse is, we REALLY don't need to have it spelled out

Upwind · 10/11/2008 20:02

Stop your monthly payment to the NSPCC and explain why. Divert the money to another children's charity whose work you approve of and want to support.

MsSparkle · 10/11/2008 20:17

If anything those ads make me not want to donate to the NSPCC because i won't be guilt tripped into giving a charity money. I will donate to a charity of my own choice because that particular cause is what i wish to give my money to.

Download an ad blocker. If you search the archives in site stuff, I think Littlelapin has posted a link to the one I use. No adverts and faster page load time!
