AIBU?

Share your dilemmas and get honest opinions from other Mumsnetters.

... to expect that, if you're going to post on an AIBU thread, you should at least take the time to read the thread??

well that's it really. i know AIBU is all about having fun, and having a go at OP is part of the game, but it is sometimes insanely irritating when people come into the game later on and only skim read the thread, thereby not acknowledging, for example, any clarifications or changes in attitude of the OP, or any admissions that, well perhaps IAB a bit U, thanks.

If you post, then you should include all relevant information in the OP. It is your fault if you don't.

so ner :P

lljkk · 11/11/2008 17:52

I think it's reasonable to expect anyone posting freshly to read all posts by OP on the thread, and to read the most recent 10 or so posts by everyone else, but if it gets to hundreds of posts, impossible to read them all.

He who lives in glass house dresses in the basement.

DisasterArea · 11/11/2008 17:56

couldn't be arsed to read whole thread. boring. and no. don't think people should have to. so there.

2shoes · 11/11/2008 18:02

wow someone agreed with me

squeaver · 11/11/2008 18:05

Can't be bothered to read the thread. Could someone do a quick summary pls.

ScottishMummy · 11/11/2008 18:16

summary:waste precious time reading op and its subsequent alterations don't just launch on in

oh hell, why faff about reading 15+pages.get stuck in.everyone else will

ChillyTilly · 11/11/2008 18:30

I sometimes do a screen search to see if the OP has added anything new - but the last time i did that the OP changed IDs on me!!!!

beforesunrise · 11/11/2008 19:07

"generally the op's views change because they don't like being flamed therefore there orignal post is what they think. "

that's one way of looking at it. the other possibility is that, having posted with the genuine intention of understanding whether they were being unreasonable or not, they have received such amazing advice that they are now seeing things from a slightly different perspective.

anyway i have now changed my mind and i think IABU. or maybe not. it depends

..haven't bothered reading the thread.

(But would wager I am not the first to have posted thus)

MrsMattie · 11/11/2008 19:15

Sometimes you feel really strongly you want to post, but can't be arsed to read 200 replies.

colacubes · 11/11/2008 19:17

Not read thread, dont see the point, hope no one said this already!

But this is an open forum, freedom to do as one choses. YABU,

accordiongirl · 13/11/2008 23:16

yes, YABU, some of the threads are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long

TeenyTinyTorya · 13/11/2008 23:20

YABU, some threads are just too long. I do generally skim read though. stealth i get what you did there

Twinklemegan · 13/11/2008 23:32

Well on an AIBU thread, by definition the OP is inviting opinions on her first post. So YABU - I reserve the right to answer the question first and read the thread later.

Kimmy1080 · 13/11/2008 23:34

don't think you were were supposed to 'get' the pink elephant comment... completely irrelevant to the original post which I think was supposed to be funny.... well I laughed anyway LOL

Kimmy1080 · 13/11/2008 23:36

oh bummer, just realised I made a comment but didn't actually get to the end of the whole thread as it's over 2 pages - so my post is completely irrelevant now!!!! Ooops, slaps wrists

TeenyTinyTorya · 14/11/2008 00:00

Yeah, that's the point, Kimmy lol!
