To think if your baby has been ill and not allowed at nursery you should not go to a baby group instead?

Am feeling very hormonal. On friday we went to our baby group as usual. Last night dd 7mo was very badly sick all over the cot, her face, 2 sets of pj's, her tummy was bloated out and when dh touched it she was in pain. Mentioned it to a friend who also goes to the friday group who said didnt you hear? XXXX said that her ds had exactly the same thing and wasn't allowed at nursery for 48hours. Yet she takes him to a baby group where there are just as many children waiting to pick up viruses. Am probably over reacting but am 12weeks pregnant and my little girl was ill

I never take my DS to group if he's poorly - I think its very poor form to do so. You are not being unreasonable at all! Some mums just want to get out though and don't give a stuff about passing germs on

YANBU!

I'm assuming that her ds's symptoms had subsided, otherwise she wouldn't have brought him to the baby group - and that being the case, I can only imagine that she assumed that her child wasn't infectious any longer - though it's clear she was wrong about that.

That said, I don't blame you for being cross about this - at your stage of pregnancy, dealing with a sick child is so not what you want.

I hope that your dd feels better soon - and I really hope that the rest of the family don't pick it up.

Hugs
sunnygirl.

YANBU

if a child has S&D then they should stay inside/away from people for ideally 48hrs

to take to an environment where small babies and toddlers are going to be there - ie a M&T is tome totally iresponsible

if mummy needs company then she could call friends over who KNOW that the children have had S&D

grrrrrrrrrrr ing for you

hope your 7mth and you are ok x

What's the view on chest infections/bronchiolitis/colds?

Both my kids have been ill for a week and still coughing, dd on last day of antibiotics. Don't go to nursery so have no 'normal' parameters - when can I actually see people?!!!!

tokentotty · 10/11/2008 09:06

My nursery have just accepted DS (15 months) and he's on day 4 of antibiotics for bronchiolitis so am guessing you're in the clear.

Shoshe · 10/11/2008 09:06

Umlellla I give this out to all my new Parents when they start with me, it sets out health time.

Upwind · 10/11/2008 09:09

YANBU - I would say something to her.

BouncingTurtle · 10/11/2008 09:17

YANBU - if your child is excluded from mursery due to illness, surely it is common sense to keep them away from M&B groups?

ChairmumMiaow · 10/11/2008 09:17

Going to baby groups with D&V is definitely off, but I don't think you can avoid passing colds on, so we don't bother about that. If we did we would have been in the house for the last few weeks. I think the colds get passed around the kids, mutate a bit and then come back, but short of keeping them home alone all winter, I don't see what you can do!

Umlellala · 10/11/2008 09:19

Thanks, Shoshe. Really helpful, looks like I can see people now (provided kids are up to it). The hospital told me you couldn't really avoid the cold virus (and that's my opinion) but I know other people can be funny about it.
