3 weetabix (or the equivalent) and a piece of toast with peanut butter for breakfast?

DH says the toast is too much extra, but DS always says yes please!

He does lots of sport - today will do at least 2hrs football training before lunch and 2 hours swimming this afternoon.
He is a strong muscular build (like DH) and not fat. He is 7 btw.

Sounds fine! Most important meal of the day. DS (2.7) eats tons for breakfast.

cheshirekitty · 08/11/2008 14:52

Try oatabix for brekkie. It is low GI and better for the heart.

YANBU. If he is not overweight, he obviously burns his food off.

bigTillyMint · 08/11/2008 16:26

Cheshirekitty - does it sound alot to you then? I don't want to have him eat more than he needs, but we all love our food in our house.

BTW, he often has oatibix or porridge

Hello, I'm new here but this caught my eye - I'd be delighted if I were you. Breakfast is a struggle for me, too, and if I can get a small handful of Shreddies down my DD (3.9) I'm pleased. DS (19 months) has begun to refuse anything except Cheerios or yogurt...anyway, that's a whole other problem!
If you think the toast is too much (although sounds fine to me) how about a banana instead?

sunnygirl1412 · 08/11/2008 19:10

When ds1 was about 20 months old, I once gave him 5.5 weetabix for breakfast!! He started with his usual 1.5, and said 'More!' when he finished it, so I gave him another - and he said 'More' again. Basically I dept on giving them to him until he stopped asking for more! He didn't eat much for lunch that day......

In my defence, I only did it once - I was enthralled to see how much weetabix one small boy could eat!

Ronaldinhio · 08/11/2008 19:13

yabu weetabix boak

EmiliaCoralie · 08/11/2008 19:15

Nothing wrong with that. YANBU. No one ever got fat on Weetabix and the peanut butter gives him some protein and energy. Sounds like he needs it with all the exercise he does

wickedwitch81 · 08/11/2008 19:23

Am new here what does boak stand for ?

justneedsomesleep · 08/11/2008 19:24

I think it's fine.
My dd (almost 3) has 2 wetabix and a banana for breakfast and a cup of milk. Precisely 40 mins or so later, she's asking for a snack! So maybe I should be giving her more at breakfast!

Agree with others that it is the most important meal of the day - they have the whole day to burn it off and if not hungry at lunch, you know it' sbecause they have had a big breakfast, not pickiness.

Today my dd has ate LOADS! 2 weetabix and banana for brekkie, plus apple and later a pear. Then lunch - spaghetti and bread and butter, followed by ice cream. Loads of rice cakes while we went to tesco. Then grapes and blueberries in afternoon as snack. For dinner, chicken, mashed potato, broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. Then jelly for after then ate brothers blueberries as he wouldn't eat them. Now she's having toast and milk!
Saying that yesterday, i didn't give her pudding after dinner or supper as she had been naughty. Maybe she's scared in case I won't feed her today and is stocking up!

Sorry for waffling, but it's fine!

Ronaldinhio · 08/11/2008 19:27

vomit

my mum made this for us everyday for about 10 years

ugghghhghghghhgh

StickLadyLove · 08/11/2008 19:36

Wish I could get DD to eat blueberries. Why does every other child seem to wolf them down and she won't even lick one?!

ChirpyGirl · 08/11/2008 19:43

DD1 (2.8) loves weetabix, she has 1.5, then a bowl of cornflakes (ick), then 2 slices of peanut butter on toast (eating around the crusts, natch), a banana and some OJ/water.
What grosses me out is she has them with so much milk they are like porridge, bleurgh.

DD1 (1.1) has bowl cereal, toast with jam, 1/2 banana and OJ.
I firmly believe in giving them all they want for breakfast as then I don't care if they pick at the rest of their food!

mamaspanx · 08/11/2008 19:48

i think this is an excellent breakfast and a great way to start the day, its not two bowl fulls of frosties!

StickLadyLove · 08/11/2008 19:48

I'd like DD to have peanut butter but was told to hold off until 5 due to family asthma/allergies...can anyone recommend another nutritious, high-energy toast topping?
