To hate the term ' WE are pregnant' ?

It goes through me, a lot.

More so, much more so, when it is the father-to-be saying it.

Since when have men been capable of growing a baby inside them?

YANBU - hate it.

whats babydancing?

grumblingirl · 06/11/2008 15:23

Yes, jumpingbeans. I hate that more. 'Is baby feeding well?' 'How is baby'. Retch retch retch. I felt like screaming 'HE HAS A NAME!' Or at least acknowledge the sex -he/she is easier to say!

nickymorris · 06/11/2008 15:24

one vote for the oppostion. I used to say that WE are pregnant so DH would realise it was a shared thing - not just something that was happening to me. But didn't do it excessively and only among family and close friends that would forgive me

Upwind · 06/11/2008 15:25

For a long time I hated people ASKING if we were trying for a baby

Now I hate them asking if this baby was planned and forcing me to confirm that we were indeed fornicating with intent

jumpingbeans · 06/11/2008 15:26

Funny thing is i don't mind if they say " the baby is asleep, or hang on, I need to feed the baby, ...crazy lady

grumblingirl · 06/11/2008 15:33

No you're not crazy. I don't mind it if the prefix is on the front either!

Liffey · 08/11/2008 15:22

Even worse is "we had a natural birth" "we had no drugs" "we had 5 stitches".
I swear I've heard all of these.

LynetteScavo · 08/11/2008 15:26

YANBU - I also hate "lets see how much we've grown" etc. at the baby clinic. WE? Only the baby is being weighed.

nickytwotimes · 08/11/2008 15:30

YANBU.
We are havign a baby is acceptable but afaik, only women can be pregnant.

I have said 'we're expecting', is that as bad?

What is 'babydancing'?

hiccymapops · 08/11/2008 15:38

As in 'we're expecting No2 in a few weeks' Is that better?

nickytwotimes · 08/11/2008 15:39

'we're expecting' isn't as bad, no, because you are both expecting the arrival of a baby.
You are not both pregnant though, so that is wrong.

I have the feeling I am getting overly annoyed aobut this issue.

Liffey · 08/11/2008 15:43

I agree that we're expecting is acceptable because that is true. Both expecting the arrival of a baby.

onthewarpath · 08/11/2008 15:52

WE are trying for a baby : correct as it takes two ( well most of the times...).

WE are pregnant : How on earth?

sweetgrapes · 08/11/2008 15:58

Me too, me too...

No, 'we' are not f*ing pregnant.
I am pregnant and you are going to be a dad. 'I' am the one with the backache who can't sleep at night. 'You' are the one snoring next to me!!!

'We are expecting a baby' is fine.

'Babydancing' creeps me out too. Having sex in plain english. 'Trying for a baby' is much better.

chunkychips · 08/11/2008 15:58

hate it, it's so corny. we're expecting is also nauseating. slightly different but also cringe when people sign cards and put from them 'and the bump'

squeaver · 08/11/2008 15:59

Ugh! Hideous, hideous, hideous.

And mummyloveslucy, PLEASE don't call your dh "daddy". You'll end up like my in-laws who call each other "Grandma" and "Grandpa".

sweetgrapes · 08/11/2008 16:04

'we' had 5 stiches did we?
So where exactly did 'we' have them?

and I suppose 'we' are breastfeeding too, no?

Liffey · 08/11/2008 16:10

Yeah my old driving instructor 'matt' told me he had five stitches

BBeingpatient · 08/11/2008 16:15

well im slightly opposed...

I think it very much depends on the circumstances of your conception.

my partner and i have discussed it and whilst we plan to say we are expecting, we are pregnant is not for us.

I have told people we are trying, both on here and in RL, not through any smugness, but because it hasnt been easy and ive needed support so i dont think there is anything wrong with saying you're trying and fail to see how that could be TMI if that was all you simply said?

i wont be calling my partner daddy, but will refer to him as daddy to the DCS.

TBH i dont see the big deal, it all seems kinda small potatoes in the grand scheme of things but then, as i said maybe it depends on your circs.

girl815 · 08/11/2008 18:32

I often say that 'we are pregnant' as for us getting to the stage of being pregnant was very long and painful and we were really in it together. Having gone through such a rough patch together to get pregnant I really feel that 'we' are pregnant, though of course, he sadly doesn't get half of all my aches and pains.

I'm not being smug or showing off, its just the way of telling people that feels most natural to me.

SalBySea · 08/11/2008 18:36

whenever anyone tells my DH that they heard that he is having a baby or that he is pregnant, he says "no I just had a big lunch, but sal is pregnant and we are expecting a baby in april"
