dp says i am being a grump,

dd (17 weeks) is now awake,

dog is pooping his furry pants under the bed,

it is mid week,

school night,

i am guessing these 'firework setting off people' have no children,

i am ok to go and knock them out on?

YANBU.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 05/11/2008 23:07

it is illegal
the curfew for fireworks is 11pm unless you have a special event licence and they are hard to get for fireworks

snoopdog · 05/11/2008 23:07

hugs wrinkly and tells dp we have a 1 - 0 situation

there is still lots of banging around here. no i don't mean that, I mean fireworks

shut the buggers up say I.

differentGuyD · 05/11/2008 23:09

It is an offence to let fireworks off during night hours (11pm to 7am), except on Bonfire Night (midnight), Diwali, New Year, and Chinese New Year (1am).
Just copied and pasted. So, no we still have nearly an hour left.

snoopdog · 05/11/2008 23:09

snoopdog · 05/11/2008 23:10

it had gone quiet but suddenly kicked off again,

OP posts:
shitehawk · 05/11/2008 23:11

Absolutely no.

There are plenty of hours of darkness at this time of year, without using the most anti-social of them to let bloody great explosives off.

They ought to be banned after an earlier time than 11, IMO.

snoopdog · 05/11/2008 23:11

7 - 0

shall tell dp i am not a grump

I wish I'd known about it being an offence to let them off after 11pm as we have lots of students round her and some of them were letting off fireworks at 1am at the weekend. Some people are remarkably selfish and thoughtless.

differentGuyD · 05/11/2008 23:15

thing is, by the time police get to the scene everyone of the feckers will have buggered orf. It's totally crap, but that's what usually happens.

unknownrebelbang · 05/11/2008 23:15

DH is obviously wrong (on this issue).

Still got the odd one going off here too.

NCbirdy · 05/11/2008 23:15

It is unfair - but I would not stress out (in fact I am not stressing out) It is only once in a while, if it were a neighbour partying every night then I would say YANBU but as this is a few nights of the year then, sorry, I am with your DP!

shitehawk · 05/11/2008 23:18

It's not only a few nights of the year though. Not any more.

It's been every night here for a month. It will probably continue for the next three weeks - and that's without other celebrations like Divali and New Year.

It's dark now at 4pm. There is no need to wait until 11pm to start letting fireworks off.

snoopdog · 05/11/2008 23:33

i would not object to it as such,

but it is now late,

my dd is screaming,

but you know...

i know it is only once a year,

(and 2 weeks either side)

and i like it,

but dd does not,

and i am guessing every baby, child, oap, dog/cat/pet, early to bed person does not either,

11pm + is taking the piss,

imho,

OP posts:
littlelamb · 05/11/2008 23:41

Hell no. I have a baby and a 4 year old trying to sleep and it sounds like someone is being gunned down in our street

brimfull · 05/11/2008 23:43

bloody inconsiderate imo

it's dark at bloody 5pm

no need to do it so late

Maybe I have been spoiled then, my children have never been bothered and my dog just sits on my knee (although she does weigh quite a bit) - oh and the deciding factor, we only get them on bonfire night and one weekend night if the 5th is midweek. (We get divali and new year too)

Ok, I am spoilt - complain away, if it were going on for weeks then I would have had enough too!

JodieO · 05/11/2008 23:58

Exactly it's dark at 5 why wait until 11pm when some people will obviously be trying to sleep, it's selfish and inconsiderate.

snoopdog · 05/11/2008 23:58

all quiet again now

i tell you though,

if it starts up again,

i am ready pre menstral

i shall happily kill anyone who sets off anymore watch the fireworks
