to think people shouldn't push the issue when I say I DONT LIKE FIREWORKS!!

I've already replied to friends thanking them for the invites but I dont wanna chip in for fireworks as I dont like them and the 2 times I forced myself to private firework displays I was nearly hit by one.

Why cant people take no for an answer?, keep getting texts back urging me to come, saying things like "you can stand back" (erm, I would anyway!)

I come from a country where you have to be registered to buy fireworks - they are illegal privately. Firework displays were always well organised and safe and I HATE watching people setting them off in their back gardens and laughing at their near misses! The organised displays were always really really good and even if I wasnt scared of fireworks I dont see the point of standing in the cold to watch 5 pathetic supermarket fireworks - hardly "oooo" and "ahhhh" inducing

I also hate how people use their privately bought fireworks right into the night without a thought to the confused elderly veterans or animals or children in their area. There is nothing good IMO about private firework displays

I'm with you. Where I grew up, having fireworks at home was banned. I bloody hate the things!!!!

ForeverOptimistic · 05/11/2008 17:59

I don't like them either. As well as being potentially hazardous they bore me to tears.

LadyLauraStandish · 05/11/2008 18:01

Well - they've started here!!!!

SalBySea · 05/11/2008 18:03

If I was plannin a day out to crufts and a friend said they didnt like dogs I wouldnt pester them to come anyway and "just stand back"

They make me jump and I know I wont "enjoy it when you're there"

I sort of had to go to a display in someone's back garden last year. All the dads were organising it. It was so tedious. Waited for minutes in between fireworks, they were pretty cruddy and probably cost a bomb.

Really wished I'd gone to the big free public display I normally go to. (Although having to miss it this year too)

theSuburbanDryad · 05/11/2008 19:56

BAN THEM i reckon. Or only sell them to licensed pyrotechnickers - if you know what I mean.

I have in the past bought some sparklers off someone whose dad was a professional firework type bloke, because they're nice to watch when you're a bit out of it but i'd never have them now I've got kids - I'm too scared of ds burning himself!

andyrobo237 · 05/11/2008 20:11

I agree - fireworks should not be on general sale to all and sundry - only for licensed outdoor properly organised displays.

Far too dangerous, we dont even go to ss thema s DD doesnt like them, so we look out of the window.

I do have to say that last night was the first night we heard any, so that new rule about not selling them too early has worked around here. Someone was letting them off near my work at lunchtime today - divvies!!

all should be banned. most people haven`t a clue what its all about? and being an animal owner i know the stress that my dog goes through. i worked for the local council and we had many calls about the noise upsetting young children. we had people letting them off in broad daylight?

BlueBumedFly · 05/11/2008 20:55

I was not bothered either way before this year now the silly bastards delightful neighbours who are well aware their garden is about 2 feet from DDs (18 months)bedroom window have been sending them up on and off for almost 2 hours now. If she wakes up one more time I am going to go round and suggest a new place for a bloody rocket to go!

JUST DO THE DISPLAY AND EAT YOUR SPUDS FOR GODS SAKE!! Sorry, bad day.

wittyusername · 05/11/2008 22:01

I agree - and how I loathe the silly youths who were letting them off at the local park and nearby pavement in the middle of the day

chequersandchess · 05/11/2008 22:04

My baby has been woken up 3 times this evening by fireworks.

I just found a rocket by my back door.

Don't begrudge anyone their fun though, but agree that YANBU.
