Am I? God damn fireworks I am so f**ked off with our neighbourhood sounding like a lively night on the streets of Baghdad every night this past week! If not banned couldn't the gov. only make them legal at professional organised displays?

Then so should people who drive, any other day of the week, and those who drink every friday and saturday night... the list could go on and on as there is absolutely no foolproof activity.

I think in the last few years it has actually gone much better. I remember when I first moved to England, the fireworks were startng from 15th October. I think because 1 night a year is not too bad (and because I actually love a good firework dispay) it should not be banned but I do understand it does ennoy a lot of people because of noise level and possible accidents.

They are partly controlled. Shops selling them have to buy a special licence just to sell them for a few weeks of the year. It costs a lot more to have a year round licence which is why it's so hard to buy them out of season.

I do wonder if perhaps selling them from one central point in a town where sales could be more carefully monitored might help. However as far as I can see it's a minor inconvenience for most people. Not the end of the world.

I dont think bonfire night should be banned, I dont think organised displays should be banned but I really dont see why just anyone should be able to buy fireworks. We went to a great display to support a local charity and I cannot see that a box of fireworks would have cost less.

Home fireworks are so limp and sad too compared to what you see at a display...you cant go out and buy a gun in the shop so why can you buy explosives?

Someone decided to let rockets off over our garden last night just after I put the boys to bed (thanks for that chaps)the dog is a nervous wreck in November just about recovers into December then it all starts again around xmas.

YANBU!! I agree with you only public displays since kids think its hilarious to throw fireworks at eachother and passers by also setting them off till stupid times in the morning.

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 06/11/2008 14:06

YANBU. My cat was ok with them, more narked that I wanted to kerb her going out hours than anything. My DD was petrified of them for years, she has grown out of it but now the dog has taken over the jittering around here.

It isn't just for one night anymore, it stretches on for weeks!! Oh and yes, I did turn the tv up to drown out the noise, so then there was no conversation with my DH when he got home for work ..... not all bad then

10am this morning out on the dog walk, fireworks going off, just selfish plain and simple.

YA so NBU.

I fucking hate fireworks!!!
People who let off those loud ones are moronic imbeciles.

sweetkitty · 06/11/2008 22:35

YANBU

I hate fireworks too, our next door neighbour (respectable head teacher type) thinks it's OK to let off fireworks at 9.30pm knowing I have 3 DC under 5 one of which is a baby, they were so close the windows were shaking, DD1 woke up terrified and I had to restrain DP from going around there and probably getting himself arrested.

Also the cost WTF can afford £50 on fireworks, probably the same idiots who set them off during the day, that kind of defeats the purpose?

Lovesdogsandcats · 06/11/2008 22:38

oh he sounds like a complete twat your neighbour!
