Preschool Lollipops....

WorzselMummage · 04/11/2008 17:50

I know i am probably being a miserable unreasonable old bag but i am fed up ith DD who's almost 4 bringing home those horrid chubba chups type lollys from preschool and am considering asking the preschool to ban them.

I have absolutly no objection to chocolate, cake or even the occasional bag of harribo for birthdays but thse lollys do my head in, they are SO bad for teeth and now shes started asking for them at home too (she doesnt get them). Untill she started preschool she'd never had sweets atall

If might not be so bad but its twice a week at the moment and i know i could tell her she cant have them but its not that easy when she's been carrying it around all day looking forward to it is it

AIBU ?

YANBU

Preschool is not the place for sweets

By all means write to the playleader, put forward your pov, as in your OP

YANBU - I am with you 100%

Good luck.

LadyOfRoffle · 04/11/2008 18:18

YANBU. DS (2.7) brought home some haribo yesterday as it was someones birthday, bu that wasn't so bad, but a lollipop isn't really suitable IMO for toddlers. Not so much the sugar, I am paranoid about things on sticks! & choking if it comes off.

Andthentherewerethree · 04/11/2008 18:19

the pre school my ds2 went to actually sent a letter home wih the welcome pack saying boiled sweets and lollipops were not to be given for handign out for birthday treats. cake, biscuits and chocolate were acceptable but if lollipops or boiled sweets were given then they would eb returned without handing out.

i don;t see the odd lollipop as casuign a problem but i suppose if your dd is being given them twice a week then it may be too often. Also will she really be given them twice a week for the rest of her pre school years or is this just an exceptionally busy period for birthdays?

Yanda · 04/11/2008 18:21

They just give them lollipops twice a week because....?

I think YABteenyU about the very occasional lollipop, but YANBU about twice a week forever.

I'm with you Worzel. I'm cheered at the response to this thread so far. Last time I brought up something similar I was crusified for being an uptight, killjoy, hippy lentil weaver.

I was even forced to pull the 'my ds is diabetic I think you'll find' line in my defence.

Even without a diabetic son I don't want people giving lumps of coloured sugar and additives to my kids.

Spidermama · 04/11/2008 18:23

Crucified. sp.

WorzselMummage · 04/11/2008 18:39

Yanda i think its others mothers who bring them in for their childrens birthdays.

I really have no objection atall to most treats but boiled sygar isnt really appropiate for 3 year olds, even as the odd treat if i am saying how i honestly feel.

yanbu I've let my 3 year old have lollipops about 5 times over a year, at two a week that's over a hundred!

falcon · 04/11/2008 18:41

YANBU.

If it was a few gums or chocolate it wouldn't be so bad but lollipops are about the worst possible sweet for one's teeth.

AbbaFan · 04/11/2008 18:44

YABU

Chuppa chups are so good - Strawberry and cream, yummy

Seriously though, I wouldn't mind every now and then, but if you feel strongly then speak to the nursery manager.

WorzselMummage · 04/11/2008 18:47

AbbaFan, i agree they are indeed lovely..

She had a cola one today, i really fancied it.

I will definatly speak to the manager, thanks for the support ladies i though i was going to be told i was being stupid

When I brought lollipops up with the head when DS1 was in reception, I was told she couldn't request parents bring in one type of sweet, but not another.

WorzselMummage · 04/11/2008 18:57

really ?

Oh well i shall probably speak to the preschool head tomorow of whenever i get a chance.

Is this sweets on birthdays a new thing ? i dont remember it happening when i was at school really..

I would be very surprised if the preschool was handing them out. I expect it is down to the parents and birthdays. I don't think the manager could dictate what parents hand out.
