To complain about this girl?

I came out of the doctors yesterday and as i was turning to go on the path a bike crashed into my buggy, it was lucky i was holding on to the buggy tightly as we ended up facing the other way and the girl on the bike still couldn't stop for another 6 feet.

It was 5 o'clock so it was dark and the stupid cow had no lights and was going so bloody fast dd2(16 months) started screaming and the girl didnt even say sorry or ask how dd was.

I am so bloody angry, she was on her paper round so today i am going to complain to the shop i know they probably won't care or do anything but hopefully it will make her think twice about riding that fast on the path.

Dd has a large bruise on her leg and told me it sore this morning.

So AIBU to tell the shop?

id mention it to shop owner.then let them deal with it.hope your dc is ok.

i get where np is coming from.it isnt the girls fault, but maybe with gentle word from boss she may either be able to borrow/buy a light, avoid pathways or slow down.i wouldnt go in shouting and screaming though-you dont want to get her the sack.

Why is cycling too fast on the pavement in complete darkness not her fault? She's 14, not 4.

2shoeshissbangwhoosh · 04/11/2008 11:44

she couldn't ride on the road with no lights.
the lack of lights is the problem imo.

i think the employers need to take some responsibility and only the papers to be delivered by bike, it the child wears the correct safety equipment.

i am just imagining her asking for parents for lights, and being told by her dad "youre not getting them, just ride on the path"

2shoeshissbangwhoosh · 04/11/2008 11:47

why would a parent tell a child not to buy lights???

Tortington · 04/11/2008 11:48

i wonder if flowerybeanbag knows = the resident hr expert - if the newsagent has a duty to prove the lights as a safe working environment hmmm hmmm

giddly · 04/11/2008 11:49

Even with all your arguements, she was riding fast and didn't even apologise. (sorry everyone - I'm feeling very argumentative today - am amazed I'm getting so involved in this! I'm usually a lurker).

but she's earning money frm teh paper-round and could surely get some lights with that. So long as she doesn't get one of those flashing ones to put on her bike! You're not supposed to!

Highway code & Cyclists

No mention of age here, just that they should not be on pavemnets and should have lights on as well.
