dont you hate when people come around without calling first!!!!??? today dd was having her afternoon nap so dp and i decided to have a quickie, so after i tidied up i just put some underwear on and was watching tv on the sofa. we are going on holiday next week so MIL offered to lend us a suitcase which we were to collect later this evening. suddenly there went the doorbell and i thought it must be the post, but to my horror it was my MIL and step FIL with said suitcase. the layout of my flat means in order to get to my room we have to go down the hall past the doorway so i was stuck, thank god dds fleece blankie was on the radiator i quickly took it and covered up. so the entire time they were here i could not move for fear of exposing my backside nor could i get up when dd woke up, i did have a tshirt on so dont know if they knew i was in my knicks but i just really hate when people dont call at least 5 mins before they show up!

I think I'd have made some excuse and scuttled out of the room, crablike to make myself decent.

lilysmummy2007 · 01/11/2008 21:51

i wish i could have but what excuse when sfil is like a sentinel at the living room door and mil is sat right next to me!

You should have created a diversion - used your imagination. Asked them to look at the drainpipe outside, or check on the baby or go and put the kettle on, anything really.

lilacclaire · 02/11/2008 00:44

Thats what you get for enjoying a quickie in the afternoon

childrenofthecornsilk · 02/11/2008 01:06

That happened to us once but it was a priest at the door.

lilysmummy2007 · 02/11/2008 05:56

QuintessentialGunpowderPlot · 02/11/2008 07:39

blimey - and your mil didnt even get a cuppa, then?

compo · 02/11/2008 07:41

I'd have lied and said dd had just thrown up all over you so could they avert their eyes while you went to get changed
didn't dp help you out?!!

ToughDaddy · 02/11/2008 08:21

why not tell them the truth - you are all adults- so that next time they will call. Given that you have a baby with their son they must have adjusted to the idea that you and DP ..erm... engage.

lilysmummy2007 · 02/11/2008 09:02

qbp i know right, it was terrible, dp did give them a drink but they were just going on and on about travelling with dd and insect repellent, i wish i could daddy but mil is the biggest prude! i swear she thinks dd was an immaculate conception!!!

I would have shouted through the door 'won't be a minute' and gone and put a skirt on.

asdfghjkl · 02/11/2008 09:46

I would've wrapped the blanket round me and gone past the door to put clothes on while DP answered the door. Maybe you need a blind on the door if people can see through it.

lilysmummy2007 · 02/11/2008 16:52

it was a case of me in the living room, dp answerring the door not expecting anyone that needed to come inside ie the postman or british gas or something like that, but before i could even check to see who it was they were already in the door!
