To want to get this girl into as much trouble as possible?

I was sent a link to a video on youtube by my sister who currently attends one of the worst schools in Britain.

The video features a 14 year old scum child beating up a girl down an alleyway close to the school whilst being filmed on mobile phone which was then obviously uploaded onto youtube.

It's disgusting. It makes me so mad that this is the kind of shit that decent kids have to put up with just to get an education.

I'm wondering what to do with the video ... I want something done about her.

I can either send the link to the school and hope they take action on her

Send the link to the local newspaper who have been running stories on the school since september or ...

Send the link to the police.

AIBU to want to get this kid into as much trouble as possible??

Must be lovely to live in such a black and white world girls. I'll leave you to it

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 01/11/2008 09:37

Whilst I take your point about not knowing the background to the girl filming the video, I have to say that IME a 'happyslapping' incident generally isn't a first foray into bullying.

And also there's a huge step between actually being there and filming it (possibly under duress, who knows?) and then taking the time to upload it to YouTube and share it with the world.

Police and school only.... local newspaper's job is to sell papers, not to educate children or maintain law and order. It's in no-one's interests for a child with serious problems to be labelled as such in the paper. Let the school and police take appropriate action: they are the ones vested with the powers to do this, not shlock horror newspaper

zookeeper - if it is your child being bullied then it is a balck and white issue.
If the bully has other issues then by calling the police those issues can be flagged up and social services can be involved. Of course I'm only huessing as to what you are thinking because your one liners don't actually contribute much to this thread.

zookeeper · 01/11/2008 09:53

If your child is bullied the bully is scum? Ah now I understand. Thanks for enlightening me Compo.

TheDuchessOfNorksDied · 01/11/2008 09:59

pofaced - the newspaper wouldn't identify anyone involved as they are all underage. I think the local press can sometimes be a useful, and powerful, lobby in getting action taken in these matters.

and zookeeper answers with another one liner...

Pheebe · 01/11/2008 10:30

If it were me I would report to the school and the police. Many police forces have dediated officers looking at this kind of thing so may already be aware of it.

No way would I go to the press, its not 'your' place to exact some sort of revenge or instigate a witchhunt. The simple truth is although this behaviour is wrong and unaceptable under any circumstances you simly don't know the background to it nor are you qualified to judge. IMO should be handed over to people who are.

OP - not a personal attack on you btw, speaking in general terms. In fact well done to you for having a conscience about it and feeling strongly enough to want to get something done

neolara · 01/11/2008 10:36

Surely beating someone up in an alleyway would count as assult? Which is a police matter. It if happened to an adult, the police would get involved. No different it is is a child. School should need to know so they can protect the child in school.

numptysmummy · 01/11/2008 10:40

How is it that you tube are allowed to show this anyway? Sorry for being thick but it's about time it was either regulated or made to regulate itself.

findtheriver · 01/11/2008 10:52

It's assault.Contact the school and the police. Simple.

Nighbynight · 01/11/2008 10:59

you are right zookeeper, that it isn't black and white. So let's add another ingredient into the complex situation - punishing the bully, and allowing him/her to experience the boundaries that society places on anti-social behaviour.

hauntinghippipotami · 01/11/2008 11:07

zookeeper - could you explain a bit more please? I am interested in finding out why you would not consider a bully, someone who picks on another person, beats another person up, makes another person feel desperately upset, for the sheer fun of it, scum.

MoreSpamThanGlam · 01/11/2008 11:18

Zookeeper...what is the child that is doing the beating up and videoing then? misunderstood? From a deprived background? Abused herself? Learning difficulties?

Possibly.

But what they have done is WRONG. NO QUESTION ABOUT IT. It is a vile act and needs to be punished, not dealt with in a caring sharing manner. But made to know that it is wrong and unacceptable.

If they need help in addition to that, then thats fine, but doing this is just not on. End of.

lilysmummy2007 · 01/11/2008 11:20

police first, then school and then newspaper if the schoold does not deal with it properly. as it happened out of the school premises they may not be able to do much, but definitely the police, kids like that are heading down the wrong path and maybe with your intervention and a serious consequence she might try and straighten up.

How absolutely horrible and frightening.
But completely agree with zookeeper about the term scum.

wuglet · 06/11/2008 21:24

Did you do it then?
Only it is on the front page of the paper today!

Am aware could have been anyone who reported it as it was obviously in the publc domain.

FWIW it mentions that the "suspect" is already permanently excluded from the school - for something else ()and the police are now involved.

wuglet · 06/11/2008 21:26

public. Arse

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/11/2008 21:32

i would do all of them

just say you saw it on you tube - you dont need to invlove your sister

though she is just as bad by showing you - unless she wantsyou to tell someone and show up this disgusting bully of a gilr!!

Sillyworry · 06/11/2008 21:43

Glad police are involved. I have dealt with this on a number of occasions and happy to do it again. The advantage of a kid video this is that there is film evidence of the assault (not their intention maybe) and very useful. I went to see a lad who is having a terrible time. I'm going to do all in my power to get to the bottom of the problem and sort it out. I will arrest if the evidence supports it.
