in not wanting DS to go Trick or Treating?

My lovely sister has invited me and DS over for the evening to go Trick or Treating. I have declined. Mainly because I am moving house tomorrow (with my wonderful sister's help) and just cannot spare the time to go out but also because I hate the Trick or Treating thing. I know I am going to get grief from DS over this as he gets older (at present he is only 5). Most people I speak to moan about it and seem to hate it - so the last thing I want is for DS to banging on doors of people who don't like the T or T thing and would rather he stayed at home.

We have carved a Pumpkin and made Pumpkin Pie (a la Big Cook, Little Cook).

... or am I being unreasonable.

whichhouses is your sister planning on taking him to? Would it not be her neighbours who she knows?

If so, YABU. I think

Thing is we lived in the middle of nowhere before and just didn't get it. When I move (big urban area) I will probably have a box of sweets available next year and answer the door. Just not sure I want DS going out.

If it was more like the US where it's little children and all very sweet and acceptable I would be less bothered. But here it seems to be older kids banging on doors before chucking eggs, flour and fake blood

I'd say if you're uncomfortable with it go to parties (obv not when you're about to move!) or rent a few films like Hocus Pocus and get in some treaty halloween foods, or let him have his friends round. No need to trick or treat if you're not keen and it's getting less safe by the year.

When my DS is old enough I'll take him to parties and let him bob for apples and play apple on a string and dress up etc.

You can't do anything the night before you move house, surely?
