Licking fingertips to turn pages ....

What do you think? - 'yuck'/'that noise makes me want to scream', or 'it's utterly normal, get a life'?

Am trying to decide how to handle a situation so input really appreciated - posts saying just YUCK or LIFE will be accepted. Ta

I wouldn't do that unless you are reading a book that only you are going to read, not a book you will loan or from a library.
Both your fingers and your mouth harbor all sorts of bacteria. Books can't really be cleaned...can they??? I mean short of steaming or something which would probably run the ink or wrinkle the cover.
I would use one of those rubber fingertip thingies. I would also wash my hands before and after reading a book.
Just like going to the market and touching the surfaces of shopping carts. Truly YUCK!!!

I work in a library and we do clean the outsides of books, but obviously not the pages, and frankly a bit of dried spit is the least of our worries.

I have found bacon rind in one book - a bookmark? But the worst thing I found was....thick yellow toenail cuttings! Lovely!

I used to work in a shop and would take the previous day's takings to the bank every morning. One of the cashiers used to lick her fingers when counting the notes. Gross!

I sometimes do it because when trying to turn the page my finger is really slippery and has no grip so the page doesn't turn.

But I don't do it for every page, cos usually there's no need. But my dad does it for every page and it's a bit unnecessary.

When I was a child I also used to tear litle corners off the pages and chew them! (It helped me concentrate )

I do it for handouts in my lessons as well!

I loathe doing it, am sure the kids are thinking why is she passing on her germs...but it takes so long to just do it normally, they all get stuck together!

And, as always, as OP I want the consensus to come down on a particular side - perhaps what was confusing you was that I want the consensus to be that I AM being U, so that it is easier to tell myself not to mind.

Counter the conventions of AIBU, maybe, but rather useful all the same!
