Smile and nod, take no notice. The threading action is blardy marvellous for developing fine motor skills and had-to-eye coordination as well as being an execellent method of extending the concentration span of the child.

AnneUumellmahaye · 27/10/2008 18:06

excellent

Sorry

LouMacca · 27/10/2008 18:06

I love it how people with no children are always the first to give you 'advice' about yours

soultaken · 27/10/2008 18:06

it's fine as long as they're supervised.

Another vote for telling her to mind her own business.

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 27/10/2008 18:07

That's a horrible thig for her to say to your child . She should say it's lovely, regardless of what she thinks.

Pentapetides · 27/10/2008 18:07

My two year old son makes necklaces.

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 27/10/2008 18:07

thing to say. The n isn't working on the laptop.

bubblagirl · 27/10/2008 18:16

its perfectly fine my ds was being taught to do this at 2 to help fine motor skills again as long as supervised then thats ok your neighbour sounds mean to say all the rest

feel sorry for her children if that judgemental to someone elses toddler tell her next time to mind her own business

Bride1 · 27/10/2008 18:18

It's a very good activity for a child that age!

Spero · 27/10/2008 18:20

My daughter who is three has done a few bracelets, necklaces etc. they are without exception, awful - she picks the most horrible beads and puts them together in unspeakably vile combinations, but it is one of the few things we can do together that I quite enjoy. Hopefully she quite enjoys it as well.

Your neighbour sounds like a typical child free person, who frankly doesn't have a clue. Smile and nod, smile and nod.

littleducks · 27/10/2008 18:20

My two year old has these (and has since about 18 months) as she puts everything in her mouth, it is a great toy

All the early learning centre threading beads sets say from age 3 apart from the tiny beads that are hard to do more than dangerous which say age 4, so i think it is probably the perfect age

my little girl turned three this month, she has been playing with threading beads and buttons for about a year, supervised of course!
She stared at the childminders and we got some sets from ELC about six months ago.
Tell your friend to mind her own beeswax.

mumeeee · 27/10/2008 18:30

YANBU. Threading beads is a good activity for a 3 year old.

ranting · 27/10/2008 18:45

Your neighbour is a nutter, dd has been threading beads (big chunky ones) since she was 2, she still threads beads now at 6 but she's moved on to glass ones.

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 27/10/2008 18:49

hijack - where did u get said beads from - am on the look out for DS, and second of all - well she'd be mortified to see my DS using his 'blo' pens then wouldn't she!!!!

hasn't she heard of hand eye co ordination and positive encouragement?

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 27/10/2008 18:57

nice starter type but not many for price

my dd loves these

also tried and tested in my house

MingMingtheWonderPet · 27/10/2008 18:58
