To be baffled by buyers who won't pay till they have put ALL their shopping into bags at the supermarket checkout? When there's a queue waiting behind them?

I am always baffled when people with lots of shopping pack everything first and pay last at supermarket checkouts.

Why are some people totally oblivious to holding up the queue. Is it due to absent mindedness? selfishness? Or some logical reason?

It really slows things down for all those waiting behind them. AIBU to find it annoying?

I pack before I pay if I'm on my own but I do get my cards (credit and loyalty) ready while I'm in the queue. I don't want supermarket staff to pack for me as I don't drive so it's no good to me having someone pack things into bags I can't actually carry.

Usually though we do our main shop online and dp does a lot of the top ups, then if we both go together he packs and I pay. Because our bulk £200 shop is online and we don't have a car we're unlikely to ever have the fullest trolley in the supermarket.

And although it doesn't happen to me much in the supermarket I do understand what people mean about reacting to people being rude by trying to hurry them. Standing on the heels of someone in front of you in a queue is rude. And I say this as someone who tries for example to get money ready to pay in the corner shop for what I want and often finds myself stuck behind the person who only gets their wallet out at the last minute.

I choose a checkout where the people in the queue look as if they are quick and efficient-I am usually right!

I think some people are slower than others - just do things more slowly - have slower reactions and reflexes etc and just don't think about other people

I'm so anal about packing in order and in catagories, I even pack my shopping in colour coded trolley dolley bags (green for grocery, dairy is cream etc) But I place on conveyer belt in order too

I pack until it's time to pay (if I haven't finished) put card in, pack some more, enter pin, pack some more, get receipt, finish and walk away

I do get irritated by the people that check the receipt, put cards and money away, check their hair really slowly before moving on though

YABU.

I pack, then pay (if I'm not using the self-serve) because in the last few months I've left my credit card behind twice when paying whilst trying to pack.

There are many varied reasons why I've become so blardy dimwitted, but I'm trying to avoid doing the same again.

my local supermarket won't start serving the next customer until the previous one has left with all their shopping so it wouldnt really make that much difference.
