To not let my son take up Urdu

My already has the following hobbies, recorder, French club, cookery club and a swimming lesson once a week. Now he wants to take up Urdu. The Urdu lessons are free and an after school club.

Don't want him doing the Urdu because I feel that I won't ever see him and I have told him that if he wants to learn Urdu then he will have to drop one of his other hobbies. Apparently I am mean and unreasonable as he has made it clear that he wants to carry on with all his hobbies.

I have also said "no" to him doing horse riding and taking up the violin, at the moment.

well agree about the average school age player......however IMO the same can be said about the violin

Pity my poor mum - I inflicted both recorder and violin on her. At home.

My son (6) plays the violin rather well. He is having his first concert on tuesday [smug emoticon]

I played the violin. Apparently the early years were worth it for the last couple. You do have to keep him at it for about 11 years, though.

group violin lessons sound on a par with our group recorder lessons last year. I was next to one lad and after about 10 minutes I noticed all this spit was actually coming out the bottom of the recorder (and I dont mean the odd bit it was a constant dribble ) yuk thats vomit not envy

Now this year we have group african drumming lessons and it is absolutely brilliant the children love it and so do the teaching staff Its the highlight of our week!

I can understand you'd like to see him sometimes but on the other hand if the Urdu class is free and at his school, so you don't have to get him to somewhere else, and the violin/riding aren't... I'm quite impressed that he has so much energy and enthusiasm for this reange of activities. How old is he?

FAQ,

I am glad that my son has all these opportunites at a state school. He is doing well at the recorder and the violin lessons would not be at school. He will have the opportunity to learn an instrument at school when he is in year 3.

I think that learning any musical instrument requires persistance and practice. My son can no play 3 blind mice on the recorder without the local mouse population thinking that the the three blind mice have got a better deal them.
