It took us 6 hours to get here, usually only 3 1/2. The weather was crap, the drivers were reckless. The services were heaving. the 3 kids were with us, aged 6 to 3, the youngest only toilet trained 2 months.
At least the kids were good. Thank god for portable DVDs.
Get here, weather crap, kids don't settle for bed (to be expected I know but ARGH).
Mother driving me mad after 4 hours, DH going back south tomorrow. How will I survive till he comes back next week?
Am I unreasonable to crack open the red?

Not in the least. My sister moved back up to Glasgow after years and years in London and she cant stand the weather. Spent first winter moaning and telling me about purchase of wellies and long coat etc
Poor you. Hope its mellowing now.

VinegArghhhWasStabbedInTheTits · 25/10/2008 22:01

Oh crack open the wine, everything will look brighter after a few glasses, weather is pooh here too if it makes you feel better

AuraofDora · 25/10/2008 22:03

no crack away lady, a large one is in order methinks..
its the one major thing that stops me dh from ever considering moving back
dark skies for 6 months or more, pelting rain hail and the wind the wind......the fecking wind

to cheer you up though we went to the costa del sol this year....and hey, guess what?
it rained for half the holiday!!!
but still it was 27 degrees so rain in shorts i can live with

fingers crossed for a quick week hen

My husband conveniently forgot to mention the weather when he was offered a job up here - now he's giving me lectures about how to go through the small lakes that have appeared on every road in LOW gear and HIGH revs - so I don't stall or something. I never had this problem in the southeast.

The cats are disgusted with the weather - they've only set foot outdoors for absolute necessities today - and that goes for me too, though our definition of an absolute necessity was different, I have to admit. Theirs involved little holes in the flowerbeds, and mine involved a bit of retail therapy at Braehead! More art stuff so I can be inspired by nature's beauty all around me - guess I'll be using a lot of grey, then.

Mind you - when the weather's good, it's a great place to be. A few weeks ago we went down to Greenock and saw the QE2 coming up the Clyde accompanied by a flotilla of little boats under a beautiful blue sunny sky - it was amazing.

After years of pestering, my dh finally got me to make the move to the south-east by promising me sunshine

pushchair · 26/10/2008 08:16

The terrific heat down south has made me sometimes think of moving back up but I would go back to Edinburgh which is drier. Anyhoo excessive heat was not a problem this year the summer was crap.

RipMacWinkle · 26/10/2008 08:27

To be fair manky the weather the last couple of days has been spectacularly bad. Not your normal kind of crap,Glasgow weather.

However, I didn't think you ever needed permission to open a bottle of vino collapso. And if the weather gives you a reason to do so, it's no wonder we like a drink!

Enjoy your trip home

mankyscotslass · 26/10/2008 10:26

Well, I now have a mild hangover.
Sorry I posted and ran last night, but all three of them decided to get up and run riot. It took another hour to settle them, then they were up at 5 this morning.
Weather is loads better today, so I am off for a run to clear my head. DH has gone home so I am left alone to bite my tongue!

edinburgh maybe drier but it has a wind that will give you psycho-bronchitis

the driech drear in glasgow takes alot of getting used to i fear

dont think s-e has excessive heat passed few summers have been wash-outs though autumn v pleasant this year crisp sunny days

enjoy your run msl, dont slip on the wet leaves

pushchair · 26/10/2008 10:57

last blistering heat i remember in SE was year I was pg with dd3 now 2yrs. Longed for a stiff breeze off the Forth then.
And Edinburgh has the hills too. That wind and dust blasting at you as you toiled up the Mound on a grey afternoon!
Remember wearing thick tights all year round and not leaving home without a jacket-ever.

seb1 · 26/10/2008 11:01

Just treat the cold pelting rain on your face like a free exfoliation, Thats what I did 3 times yesterday

Ah yes am coming up on Tuesday actually and am looking forward to a bridie and am going to buy butteries from Tesco and take em home to freeze.
Pies with potato and beans on top-can you still get them?
Shame Crawfords has gone. Oh Lord I am starving now. With the clocks going back its only 11.11

pumpkinscantdancethetango · 26/10/2008 11:18

weathers been terrible last few days, but look theres some blue sky now what side are you on? i will think of some places that will cheer you up

mankyscotslass · 26/10/2008 11:27

I'm in the Renfrewshire side! I am planning retail therapy this week too. Actually just window shopping cos I am skint, but it will be fun. Off to Braehead, and maybe into town, Buchanan Gallaries and Princes Square....not been there for years!
Part of the problem really is feeling a bit trapped, I don't drive and the car seats don't fit in mums car, so its walks or buses/
Got a friend coming over this afternoon, it's been 9 years since I left but we still stay in touch, that will cheer me up! And my run out has cleared the cobwebs. It's only 6 more days till DH comes back. I can do this, cant I?

Be Strong [and have the wine available]

mankyscotslass · 26/10/2008 11:34

I shall! I have been off the sauce because I am trying to lose weight, but have resigned myself to the fact I will gain this week.
Plus mum has bought me a couple of bottles, although she says she dosen't agree with the demon drink.

Try Sliverburn instead of Braehead for a change.

Now back to rain though.....this is really going to test me on the daily run isn't it? Am I a fair weather runner or not?

Not any where near langside are you? Free kids music group on in the morning tomorrow at the library, would pass the time a bit lol.

Transport museum/kelvingrove?

mankyscotslass · 26/10/2008 13:36

Afraid not, but thanks for the suggestion. I am going to pop up to the local library in the morning and see whats on offer. Then get them kitted out in their wellies and head for what is laughingly called the beach!
