Although this is mostly because i have the advert playing on a permanent loop since it was on the telly this morning.

I have always had a dislike for these over priced, over poncey, over decorated shoes. They are pretty yes, but they look like dressing up shoes to be honest.

But OMG have you seen their latest offerings, shiney pink boxer boots, they are truly truly awful - my only real problem with the glitter plimsoles was the price, but these are truly awful, they look cheap and tacky and i cannot believe that anyone will buy them. Oh, but they will because the kiddies will just have to have the free watch that comes with lip gloss - what age are these shoes aimed at??? I mean, do we really want to turn our girls in to shallow, brain dead glamour queens before their hormones even have a chance to kick in.

grrrr

Katie, i don't have to much of a problem with the shoes to be fair. They ARE pretty, i think they are overpriced, but if that is how you want to spend your ££s then thats fine by me. But its the whole advertising and marketing around them that riles me - children in make up - it makes me want to vomit.

Yes, let them be princesses, but let them be children too!!!

I was actually referring to something different re the inappropriateness - the clothes that you see that make the children look like mini nightclubbers etc, the whole bling bling thing, its vile and sends out the wrong message.

I hate anything that is faddy and expensive because there will always be children who's parents can't afford, or have more sense than to give into the latest fashion craze. Its unfair and it could actually prompt bullying.

"you can't play with us because we have lelly kellies and you don't" You can just see this being said in the playground.

oh for gods sake, if i beleived that my DD wearing lelli kellys would turn her into a shallow brain dead glamour queen, i would not buy them

instead of worrying about pretty sparkly shoes, why not worry about something important ?

Get A Grip

lulumama · 23/10/2008 17:18

oh, and DD does not get the make up , it goes in the bin , and she won;t be wearing them for school, she;ll be wearing standard school shoes

don;t be so judgemental and sweeping

Marina · 23/10/2008 17:18

Hear hear lulu
They are just frivolous nonsensical footwear!

JollyPirate · 23/10/2008 17:19

I hate them and thank the heavens I don't have a little girl.

Marina · 23/10/2008 17:21

I have one of each and see loathesome fashions aimed at both whenever I go shopping. Childrenswear is full of taste-free, dubious items of clothing tbh.

lulumama · 23/10/2008 17:21

i think it would be more appropriate to get riled about vile slogan t shirts like 'porn star in training' and 'happiness is a rich daddy' and other such trite shallow nonesense

Sycamoretree · 23/10/2008 17:22

lulu, come back to the other thread.

It's much more fun.

lulumama · 23/10/2008 17:22

oooh i will, am all cross now , and i don;t do cross!

Marina · 23/10/2008 17:22

The only child I know who wears Lelli Kelly (not dd, she can't take the heckling from ds) does not seem to have had her brain fried by her shoes yet.
She is, however, obsessed with HSM3 which I think is far more annoying and age-inappropriate

KatieDD · 23/10/2008 17:23

The marketing with Lelli Kellies at least is honest, straight forward unlike plenty of the healthy food advertising, yoghurts with fruit, containing more sugar than a packet of sweets springs immediately to mind.
As for overpriced, they would sell if people weren't happy to pay for them so maybe they aren't overpriced at all, just out of your budget ???

LittleMyDancingWithTheDevil · 23/10/2008 17:23

I have no problem with people who buy them for their children - as you say, they're sparkly shoes, not WMDs.

BUT I really hope I never have to buy them as I really hate the way they look and the marketing.

And the mother buying them two sizes too big rather than insisting her child had shoes that fitted made me

KatieDD · 23/10/2008 17:26

Oh and if my daughter told anyone they couldn't play with because of what they were wearing, i'd slap her face. There is no way on gods green earth that would enter my child's head for a moment.
Maybe designer trainers might when they are teenagers, in which case you'd better start saving because that's life we might all hate it but it'll happen, we'll not to mine obviously because they will be wearing the shoes in fashion.

MoChan · 23/10/2008 17:27

I think they're disgrace. As is the fact that all of Clarks girl shoes are pink. In fact, the fact there's a conspiracy to enslave our little girls in this world of nasty pink tat from the minute they are born is making me absolutely sick.

This lady puts it better than I.

exasperatedmummy · 23/10/2008 17:31

lulu, i don't think the shoes mean your children are brain dead, not for one minute, but the advertising for them rather assumes it and that is what annoys me so.

Yes, they are out of my budget - but that isn't my problem. They ARE overpriced, it is just that there are people out there who will overpay. Like many other overpriced things in this world, which i am sure i have been sucked into in the past and will be again.

It is really the marketing that i have the problem with, but i really think they are shooting themselves in the foot with those boots, lets do a quick poll - does anyone here actually like them?

I probably would have brought the lelli kelly shoes if they were a tenner, but even if i one the lottery i wouldn't pay £40 for a pair of plimsoles with beads attached to them.

little dancing with the devil - i actually had a saleswoman in clarks advise me to buy a pair of boots a size too big for DD as i really liked them but thought they were too warm for that time of year but worried that they might be too small for winter.

oi, sycamore tree, stop poaching people from my thread - i started mine first

OP posts:
exasperatedmummy · 23/10/2008 17:36

anyway, lulumama, i have an anxiety disorder, worrying is what i do - although im not going to lose any sleep over a pair of shoes. Oh, no, hang on i might - that FUCKING advert theme tune

Seriously though, i am sorry to offend you, i wanted this thread to be light hearted and my comment re brain dead glamour queens was a stupid thing to say, it didn't get across what i was trying to say at all. Please don't be cross with me anymore.

Sycamoretree · 23/10/2008 17:42

Sorry EM!

Just want more shopping pals!

lulumama · 23/10/2008 17:42

am sorry to hear about your anxiety. i don;t stay cross we shall not speak of this again!

matildax · 23/10/2008 17:45

i think the boots are trully repulsive, even my dd who harps on for them every summer, and who loves pink and shiny, does not like them!!!! bonus!!

however what gets me the most, is the 'pound shop' plastic tat that they give with each purchase of said boots!!!

to be fair though, i quite like the summer maryjane style. not for everyday, but for partys. wheres the harm.

HOWEVER exasperatedmummy, omg, that bloody song!!!!! aaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhh, makes me wanna barf!! and the cutesy kids also.
very american
very annoying
very wrong.

wordgirl · 23/10/2008 17:45

I love pink sparkly shoes. But that may be because I have three boys.
