to want to post the dog poo through the letter box of the dirty buggers who don't clear up after their dogs?

I've just about had enough - this week got it on pram wheels taking ds to school!!!! Thought we moved to quite a nice area but beginning to have serious doubts if people think this is acceptable behaviour. dh thinks I'm getting obsessed.

No UA definitely NBU.I know just how you feel. There are lots of dog owners round here (nice area), plenty of dog bins and most are really responsible.

But there is someone new in our neighbourhood with a dog who seems to go out early in the morning and let their dog crap all over the pavement near the school (just round the corner.)and my front lawn. I am getting so fed up with dodging it. It would be my dearest wish to catch them at it and then surreptitiously follow them home and post it through their letter box.

Tryharder · 22/10/2008 22:29

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Loads of people in my area have dogs. There is a lovely park and kids playarea nearby - would love to take DS1 onto the field to play football/have a picnic (in summer that is) but can't because it is basically a dog's toilet!

Everytime DS1 ventures onto the grass, he seems to get crap on his shoes - it winds me up so much that I have been known to mutter obscenities at dog owners as I pass them . Have even thrown away perfectly good trainers because trying to clean them made me retch.

I even wrote to the council about it to ask them, why, in this day and age with all the hoo ha about child obesity, that the only place which a child could safely run about (the park) has been rendered virtually unusable by dog fouling. I personally believe that dogs should not be allowed in public parks at all and should foul in their owners gardens.

BTW,the answer I got back from the council was just the standard piece of piss answer - dog bins provided/should report anyone not complying etc etc. What? Ring 999?

Sorry for rant - real bugbear of mine.

Dragonfly74 · 22/10/2008 22:51

This annoys me too.
I took ds 2.8yrs and dd 29wks to the park the other week and we were enjoying a lovely walk when I suddenly see that ds has dog poop all over the bottom of his shoe and as he has walked he's rubbed it all over his other leg so his jeans were covered in it.

The park is lovely and its full of bins to dispose of the mess but I think some people are just bloody lazy.

Dragonfly74 · 22/10/2008 22:54

Tryharder I totally agree with what you said about dogs not being allowed in public parks. It makes me so mad. We don't have a garden so its the only place ds can burn off some of his energy.

fledtoscotland · 22/10/2008 22:58

YANBU. as a dog owner i always pick up after my two collies as i dont with my children covered in dog poo. however i wouldnt want them banned from the parks. i would prefer to ban the teenagers to drink and leave broken glass that has caused injuries to my animals and probably unsuspecting children.

sunnygirl1412 · 22/10/2008 23:11

Seems like a perfectly reasonable thing for you to do, doingmyheadin!

When I was very little, my mum once caught one of the local dog-owners putting their dog over our garden fence so that it could use our garden as its toilet!! Needless to say my mum had quite a bit to say about this!

loobeylou · 22/10/2008 23:35

my friend has people in her village who put their dog mess into the little bags then fling them over the hedge into her garden rather than take them home/find a bin!! She finds them dangling from the trees!!

i hate hate hate this "problem"

"mind you don't walk in the dog poo" is one of the first phrases my kids learnt and it drives me mad that I have to say it half a dozen times a day on the way to school!!!!!!

Yes, I agree playing fields are the worst. we have a communal green area at the end of our cul de sac and some use it as a dog loo (and do not clear up) while others let their kids run about all day in bare feet, doing handstands and rolling all over the grass. Yuk Yuk Yuk!!!

Do the people who leave their dog mess all over NEVER have the problem with cleaning it off shoes, clothes, kids etc???

Tryharder · 22/10/2008 23:57

Further to previous post, it just seems that in our society, bloody dogs take precedence(sp) over children. Why couldnt councils fence off a bit of wasteland so dogs could poo to their hearts content but leave the playing fields for kids to - er - play on!

Or even divide the bloody park up into 2. One half for kids, one half for dogs. Dogs dont go in the kids half and kids dont go in the dogs half.

mooog · 23/10/2008 00:53

What about how embarrassing it is for the dogs. Nobody gives a thought to how embarrassing it is for them do they?

RedOnHerBeheadedHead · 23/10/2008 00:56

I want to do this too!

mooog · 23/10/2008 00:58

What do you want to do RedHead, poo in the park?

Quattrocento · 23/10/2008 00:58

I think you are being a bit moderate actually. Why not take some scoopy bags, find a dogfouler and smear it all over their trousers? Wouldn't that be more satisfying?

mooog · 23/10/2008 01:04

Yes you might well satisfy him, but what good would that do,letting him enjoy it

doingmyheadin · 23/10/2008 09:35

I'm so glad I'm not alone - thought I was going a bit nutty! Have just spoken to the local neighbourhood police about it and they are going to send leaflets to everyone in the area - might be pissing in the wind but its worth a try. Apparently councils have a legal obligation to clear up public paths - not sure about parks - I'll look into it and maybe it could be my next point of attack.

RhinestoneCowghoul · 23/10/2008 09:38

I so agree - DS and I walk a lot, out in park etc and it really riles me when we end up with dog poo on shoes and buggy wheels. They wouldn't like it if I let my toddler take a dump in the park would they??

hotpotmama · 23/10/2008 09:43

No YANBU, its my big bugbear too. Get sooooooo annoyed when I get it in the pram wheels and have to spend time cleaning it all off when I don't even have a dog.

Had a big row once with a lady who was letting her dogs poo by the play area where my children were playing. It was the council's fault according to her . Not hers for being a dirty, lazy &&**^ and not clearing it up!!

If I were prime minister........

LouMacca · 23/10/2008 09:52

YANBU. I too would love to post poo through the culprits door, its disgusting.

onthewarpath · 23/10/2008 09:55

Definitely NBU It is everywhere!! You cannot even go to the park anymore without needing to hose children down before entering the house again!!Even find some right in front of doorstep sometimes, what are people thinking of?

fabsmum · 23/10/2008 10:11

YANBU. I have a dog - I always pick up after her.

There are so many dirty, lazy people round here who are tough enough to march around with a staffie on a chain, but who are too embarrassed/think they're above picking up their dog crap.

There's someone who lived down the road that my ds's nursery is on. Every day they walk the dog outside the nursery early in the morning and let it crap outside the gate where all the children go in. Every day the children tread in it on their way in. Every day.

I'm going to make a poster saying:

"To the person who leaves their dog mess on this pavement every day

Yes, YOU, you know who you are

Children in this nursery tread in your dog's mess every day and walk it into the school.

Stop exposing our children to disease.

CLEAN UP YOUR MESS!

The nursery said they'd laminate it for me and then I'm going to attach it to the fence.

Even if it doesn't work, at least it'll make me feel I've tried to do something.

docket · 23/10/2008 10:16

YANBU. I would like people who don't clean up after their dogs to be forced to spend a day cleaning dog poo off the pavements. They would of course be wearing flourescent jackets with 'I am a dirty bastard who doesn't clean up after my mutt' emblazened on the back.

Harrumph.

idlingabout · 23/10/2008 10:48

YANBU - we always clean up after our dog if he ever poos on pavement (which is very rare as he is 'trained' to go in the fields or at home).I agree that you should always clean up at parks etc. However, if you are out and about letting the dog run free in the woods or on fields then I don't think it is the end of the world if you don't pick up if you don't see what the dog is doing.
However, I would like to be able to post back all the cat crap we get in our PRIVATE garden - along with the dead birds they leave behind for us to deal with. I have never had to deal with another dog's crap in my own garden.

What particularly winds me up is when I go onto a verge to clean up after my dog and end up treading in other dog crap that was left because someone else couldn't be arsed to clear up after their dog. Aaaaaaaargh.

gagamama · 23/10/2008 12:51

YANBU. As a dog owner, I find it completely abhorrent. My dog is usually very well behaved a poos on command in the garden (ex guide dog) but I was recently caught out when he decided to crap in the middle of a road and I didn't have a bag to clear it up. Cue thrusting dog and toddlers onto DSD, dashing into nearest shop (computer shop) buying a mahoosive plastic bag for £2 and clearing up the shitty mess. I was slightly concerned that I would emerge to find DCs and dog in a mess in the middle of the road too, but alas, all was well.
