To let my children run around in a wedding, a funeral, in a library, in a restaurant, during their A'level exams...

I mean honestly, they're just kids FGS. They NEED to let off steam somehow. I simply don't see why anyone would take offence or consider it dangerous, disrespectful, or at all inappropriate.

Also it is IMPOSSIBLE to get my LOs do to anything they don't want to, so what choice have I got?

AIBU. I really, really think not. I'm sure you'll agree.

Oh, not unreasonable at all! I let my kids run around and express themselves wherever and however they feel necessary. They're only 13 and 15 FGS! You'd think people would be a lot more understanding and appreciate how cute it actually is.

mistlethrush · 22/10/2008 10:00

Yes, and they should also be allowed to go to a musical, sing along (slightly behind the beat and out-of-tune with unusual words) with all the songs whilst kicking the back of the chair in front of them

misshardbroom · 22/10/2008 10:04

I'm really hoping to take the whole family for a visit to the House of Commons. Who could possibly take offence at them zooming up to the Speaker's Chair on their Heelies? Anyway, I don't agree with the politics of the Labour government, so I don't see why I should make them behave in there.

YANBU. I work in an academic library, and I believe what the place is really lacking is some incredibly boisterous children running around and shouting. I was thinking of suggesting this to the head librarian only the other day in fact.

MadBadandWieldingAnAxe · 22/10/2008 10:12

My little Clytemnestra does so need to express the creative side of her temperament, as I reminded my small-minded former friend who complained bitterly after Clytemnestra had drawn the most charming fresco of Tigger and Eeyore on her new, £70 a roll wallpaper. Some people are just so selfish and materialistic.

Heelies, though, are possibly not the best choice for the House of Commons. I would suggest a pogo stick. For art galleries, I would suggest some indoor fireworks - Clytemnestra used them as part of her own 'installation' recently at the National Gallery. It drew quite a crowd.

misshardbroom · 22/10/2008 10:16

Fireworks are so wonderful, aren't they MBAWAA?

Especially at other children's birthday parties... the little Hardbrooms find it so hard to see other children being the centre of attention - they're just natural performers, don't you know?

So now I keep a few in the bottle warming compartment of my change bag, just to entertain them at a moment's notice.

MadBadandWieldingAnAxe · 22/10/2008 10:25

MissHB - have you ever thought of taking your own conjuror to another child's party? Sometimes the entertainment on offer just isn't stimulating enough for Clytemnestra, so I find it pays to be prepared.

Really? What have you done with the students then?

Upwind · 22/10/2008 10:38

YANBU

My sour faced old bat of a manager objected to my children running about in my workplace. As a chef, I don't consider it dangerous, disrespectful or at all inappropriate. My joyless colleagues just need to be more understanding.

misshardbroom · 22/10/2008 10:55

MBAWAA - rofl

duchesse · 22/10/2008 11:02

AIBU to only feed my kids chicken nuggets and chips, as that's all they'll eat?

FfreckleFface · 22/10/2008 11:14

I think self-expression is EXTREMELY important, and have tried to give little Ff a headstart on her peers by strapping her onto Boydog, and letting her make all the noise she wants while Boydog and Girldog run around the primary school playground. (Afterall, rottweilers need to express themselves too.)

EsmeWeatherwax · 22/10/2008 11:18

Oh, they're too busy on their mobile phones, or chatting, or on several occasions eating chinese takeout to bother about such things...

Marina · 22/10/2008 21:36

Esme, not forgetting leaving doughnuts half-eaten in the AV carrels
DIY pedicures also popular, boak

EsmeWeatherwax · 22/10/2008 21:47

Oh yuck. Pedicures?

Its also fun when you turn a corner into a rather isolated area round the corner from where I work, and find them half eating each other.

Or looking at porn on the catalogue pcs.
