To think this is bloody ridiculous?

I posted about this a few days ago but I'm even more annoyed after looking further into it.

DS (10, in year 5) has been given a sheet of homework to be returned by Wednesday...

"First Steps to Telling The Time" ?????

It features a load of blank clock faces with the time in digital form underneath and he has to "draw the hands" on the clocks.

HE'S 10!!!

WIBU of me to go into school and tell them he will not be completing anymore 'reception style' homework after this one??

It's not as if he's behind, he's actually on the 'top table' and, I am told is "above average" so why the hell give him such ridiculous work to do??? I'm so annoyed.

Mrs Snape I also get irate with hwk but for the opposite reasons! I think (for my ds)it's not a good use of our time with him so it gets my back up just as much!

The rest of it is alright to be honest. He brings one sheet of maths and one of english home each week.

The English this week is "fill in the missing words in this story..."

---

The water splashed upon the sand. The palm trees in the wind as the children felt the beneath their feet

etc etc...it went on a bit and then at the end he had to write an ending to the story and describe where he thought it was set (bit obvious that one!) and draw a picture of the scene it set in his mind.

What did annoy me though is that I found out last week that he is bringing home the same homework as year 4.

i think maybe the homework has maybe clarified some unresolved school issues? maybe make an appointment with the teacher to discuss ways of stretching him and keeping him interested at home and school.....?

The homework could be a mistake? I once photocopied the wrong sheet and sent it out as homework (causing much complaint from parents) and also occasionally the differentiated worksheets got a bit mixed up and the wrong child took the easy one home. These things do happen in a busy classroom.

hey my dd has this homework this week and she is 7 yaer 3

twinsetandpearls · 19/10/2008 15:21

If this was a one of or not a major concern I would get dd to do the homework and then get her to do something more difficult or turn it into an activity he enjoys. For example drawing the clocks on the computer to enhance his ICT skills. I often extend dd homework and the teacher is more than happy to do this as I know dd is very clever for her age but undestand she is 1 in a class of 30. However if it kept happening I would ask to speak to the teacher, not send in a snotty note.
