... to request that the post man doens't bring his dog out with him on his rounds?

We get a lot of parcels delivered to our house (thanks to OH and ebay ) so quite often have to open the door to the postman. The past few times i've had to do it i've noticed he's got his dog with him on the lead. I havn't said anything since the dog doesn't look particularily dangerous (although you never know). Now, I have no problem with dogs and have two myself but I keep thinking what if someone is terrified of dogs? It's not exactly fair on them for the postie to be bringing one to their house every day!

Another thing i'm worried about is my dogs. They're great and would never hurt anyone but they have a habit of trying to 'play' with everyone and everything. I've even seen them dancing around like loonies with their tails wagging ready to play when a huge growling thing was trying to get at them through the fence ! I'm worried that if they spot him they'll be out the door like a shot with me trying to hold a 4 month old baby and calm down two big bounding fools out on the street.

So... AIBU to request this of him although we havn't had a problem with it as such? Am I just worrying too much?

Oh for gods sake, health and safety rules, people scared of dogs, people with allergies?? WHAT????

What bloody harm is the man doing? The dog will love it, as someone said much better than being left alone at home.

There are too many people waiting to jump on people in this world who might want to do things differently to other people, does not mean its wrong!!

I have a dog who goes mental at the door when postman comes, if he had a dog and knocked for a parcel, I would lock her away before opening the door - simple.

Yeah unreasonable.

Find something worthwhile to stress over.

Elasticwoman · 18/10/2008 12:01

Many postmen have been savaged in the past by other people's dogs, when delivering things to their houses. I think they are entitled to bring their own dog as protection. But they should clean up after them as necessary and of course not let them go inside your house when you open the door.

ScummyMummy · 18/10/2008 12:04

nice dog on lead is fine

hotbot · 18/10/2008 12:10

would agree that its ok for postie to walk dog, but if i was you ,i may concentrate on training your lovely yet excitable dogs, we had the same problem - not with postie but with people at the door and our lovely yet excitable jack russells. nip their behavoiur in the bud now and try asserting some dominant behavoir over them we did as we were concerned about dd getting to toddling and them knocking her down accidently. its a good opportunity to think of it like that

well my opinion is that anyone who tries to stop a postman bringing his nice dog to work with him, is most unreasonable as well as rather short of things to do in life so I am with you kormA/

By the way OP are you the one who started the thread about all the local kids wearing tracksuits in a most common way?

SarkyandGeorge · 18/10/2008 13:04

Yes hotbot (just come back to this from yest since I don't spend much time online).

My point was that I posted OP, listened to peoples responses then I myself started to agree that I was BU:

"Thinking about it now it is actually quite sweet. I think my head is too pragmatic! I gotta chill out a bit!"

and over an hour afterwards I still get kormAaaarrrggghhhchameleon telling me
"bloody hell chill out", "a well behaved dog on a lead outside your house ? the bastard !
", (and a personal attack) "and why should postie not have his dog just because you cant control yours ?".

The post about not naming names was an obvious joke in a light-hearted manner and not "coy shit".

No, no comments made about tracksuits. I think I read that post and I just thought leave them to it.

You've completely missed the point. What I found funny was the fact that I was being told to chill out by someone who was coming across as being more excitable / worked up about this topic than I was. I've already thanked everyone for their responses and I appreciated them.

I may have singled you out but in a jokey, light-hearted way. It was never meant with malice. I'm sorry that you took in a way which it was not intended
