Oooh this happened to us.

Sky was in my name. We rang to cancel. Then opended a new account in dh's name - we got a free sky plus box!!

You can speak to them if it is in your DH's name, you just need to know the password.

i'm an existing sky customer and recently rang them to see the price of getting sky+. I blagged it that my partner wants Santander (because you can also record on that service) and wants to cancel Sky, and that I want sky+
this was all lies because he actually wanted sky+ in the first place!
final agreed price was sky+ box for free and £30 installation, no increase in ongoing charges.
anyway, long and short of it is if you pretend there's a chance you'll leave Sky altogether, the ball is in your court

Actually, on similar but different note - these kind of things annoy me all the time. They take the piss. I bought a new suit from Hobbs the other day - not cheap! The trousers were too long and she breezily assured me they could take them up for me, pinned them etc. When i went to pay they wanted me to pay £9 for the altering? I was gobsmacked as I feel that a) they should have told me that BEFORE going through the process and b) when you buy trousers at an expensive place I think that alteration at least should be free so I said, "I thought that was free" and she said, "would you like it to be?" Too right I would! And sure enough, I don't have to pay.
