to not play nursery rhyme CDs for ds in the car or at home?

Most of my friends seem to do this.
I do not as I would quickly lose the will to live. Instead, we have Radio 2 or one of my Cds on in the background.

I am a mean and selfish person?

Hello Children one sounds like one I'd actually like myself.

Never played them myself. My children listen to my CDs and always have done.

When I was still in NCT groups and kids were small, they all used to talk about how the nursery rhyme CDs drove them mad - I just thought 'don't play the bloody things then!'

Nope
Never play kids songs thats what sodding cbeebies was for.

We have XFM so ds used to request Kasabian and Muse for his pass the parcel music.

broguemum · 14/10/2008 20:14

YANBU!!!!

Don't cave in and buy "kiddie music"! It is insiduous poison to the brain and if you hear one of these songs it will infest your ears and you will hear it for days and days on a permanent loop and you will go mad.

Yes, I do speak from personal experience. We do not have "kiddie music" in our house but we recently spent the weekend with BIL and SIL and their 3 DCs. I swear, they played the same kid's CD 25 times one day and as a result, if I ever meet the person responsible for the abomination otherwise known as, "There was a farmer had a dog and Bingo was his name," I will perform an act of extreme violence.

There is a place in the special hell for all composers of that stuff....

I ve worked as nanny and Nursery Nurse and was doing all this singing and dancing as part of my job so by the time i had my children i didn't want any of this. I was playing Jazz, rock, anything but not nursery rhymes.

I thought i was the only one. Thank God for this thread, now i feel better

AbbaFan · 14/10/2008 20:21

I am with you 100%. I have never played crappy kids stuff in the car. It's my time when im driving.

As a result my kids love music

Acinonyx · 14/10/2008 20:21

Home, yes, but in the car - absolutely NOT.

jujumaman · 14/10/2008 20:26

If you really don't give a shit, why post? Or do you want congratulations on what a cool parent you are?

Sadly between the ages of about 18 months to 3, dd1 would scream for entire car journeys if we played our music. She magically shut up when we put on nursery rhyme Cds. I imagine she preferred her music to ours and as long car journeys are bloody boring for dcs it didn't seem too much to humour her. I imagine most people who play these CDs are in a similar situation, few would listen to them by choice.

She's grown out of it since we introduced her to Abba.

juju, I was just initiating a light hearted thread. Jeez!

try and have amix of both

fabsmum · 14/10/2008 21:17

I play all sorts of music for the children in the car - they each have something they really like and shout 'play my music' until I cave in and switch off radio 4 ('radio sad' as dh calls it).

ds1 (5) and ds2 (3) are particularly partial to a bit of Bjork - her loud, shouty, grindy numbers.

dd (9) likes all the usual girly stuff - Beyonce, Pink, Britney etc.

I'd rather listen to the Archers myself, but I usually get shouted down.....

nooOOOoonki · 14/10/2008 21:24

fabsmum - my DH and your Dh would get along lol at radio sad!

I let my DS's have the hated children CDs in the house but not in the car, then it is my music or radio sad (or pathetic (one) or old git (two))

but my DS's LOVE their nursery rhyme stuff, I think it is lovely, and they will be into the other stuff forever, so why not?!

Yanda · 14/10/2008 21:37

Oh I love children's cds and I often can seen singing along theatrically to them at the traffic lights

jangly · 14/10/2008 21:44

I can't see anything wrong with nursery rhymes. It would be a shame if the old ones, like Tom, Tom the piper's son and Old King Cole, were to die out. Can't see any reason to call them "kiddy krap"!

fabsmum · 14/10/2008 21:46

This is what my and my dc's sing along to in the car. Volume up loud. Car pulsating. Everyone shouting and head banging fit to bust:
