Ok I know she is 15months and should be walking but my mum pushes her too much and when it is clear that dd is bored of playing this game my mum carries on trying to make her walk.

Also the only reason she came over anyway was to use my internet.

Oh, Lord, bloody pushy grandparents indeed!
My MIL is obsessed with ds being potty trained. She goes on and on about it. I swear I am going to tell her to shut the flip up one day.

COMPLIMENT

SharpMolarBear · 14/10/2008 21:09

Maybe she meant 'in the style of a panda'
Lol at walking on the UCAS form!

cantpickyourfamily · 14/10/2008 23:11

bouncingturtle - I know how that feels as I have got family members who are racist and my dd's dad is mixed race so dd has some black in her.

It is not very nice atall but I know we cannot teach ignorant people the way things should be.

15 "should be walking" not necessarily it is a range,no point stressing about.happens when dd is ready

and granny wont rush it - no matter what she says

nappyaddict · 14/10/2008 23:35

potato - i used to let ds crawl outside in the wt. yes he got very muddy but who cares!

walking happens in such a large range it's not worth worrying over. it can be anything from 6-30 months.

potatofactory · 15/10/2008 07:50

nappyaddict - I do let her, but it's not practical all the time - only within shouting distance of home - not on days out (except once, say, then change). I don't mind her getting dirty, I'd just like her to be able to run around as she's at the stage where she'd have more fun!

potatofactory · 15/10/2008 07:53

Still, it's clarly going to happen when she's ready - she's nowhere near, so I'm reckoning 2 + years. No matter how much I don't worry - it's still reassuring to hear so many examples of children being well over two.

I have a silly cow colleague who said 'oh well they (medical professionals, of which her mum is one) get worried at 21 months', which is only 3 months off my dd.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 15/10/2008 07:54

My sister didn't walk untill she was 2. Though she still doesn't walk much now That is just general laziness though no other problems

My dd2 was about your dds age when she started walking but she gave no sign that she was ready to walk. No crusing, no holding hands to walk, nothing. She just got up one day and followed nephew out into the kitchen. She still prefers to crawl but can walk when she wants to.

potatofactory · 15/10/2008 08:00

that's reassuring!

cantpickyourfamily · 15/10/2008 09:10

One of my neices never tried to walk and one day just did it.

Yes, YANBU, they need to back off. My DD is 2 tomorrow and isn't walking, my mum and auntie are so obsessive about it and it's having the opposite effect. She CAN walk, and did the other day but if you make a fuss about it she absolutely REFUSES. They walk when they are ready!

nappyaddict · 15/10/2008 16:24

potato - just put a waterproof suit on her if it is wet outside. ds used to love crawling around after the other children. it made no difference to him that they were running and he was crawling. he was still chasing them around and shrieking and laughing the same as they were.

fanjo - aww that's great. how many steps did she do?

potatofactory · 15/10/2008 19:54

good point, nappyaddict. I do have one - but she's a bum-shuffler, and drags her bottom very heavily across the ground - thought it would rip in no time. OK on grass I suppose!

nappyaddict · 15/10/2008 21:17

ds has separate waterproof trousers and jacket. the trousers are quite thick. they might rip over time but i don't think it would happen very quickly.

mummytowillow · 15/10/2008 21:22

My daughter is 14 months, only bum shuffles, can't pull herself up or move along furniture and I'm not worried, she'll do it when she's ready!

btw they were from muddy puddles.

mumeeee · 15/10/2008 22:35

a lot of 13 momth olds don't walk. My 3 girls walked at 21,18 and 15 months.

potatofactory · 16/10/2008 09:29

ooh thanks for recommendation - that sounds better than what I've got.

Looking up muddy puddles now!

cantpickyourfamily · 16/10/2008 15:28

I really had no idea that so many children walk around the age of 2, that makes me feel alot better...

nappyaddict - what do you do about ds's hands? does he have some sort of gloves?

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 16/10/2008 16:50

i don't do anything about them ...

cantpickyourfamily · 16/10/2008 18:42

don't they get sore from crawling around out side?

nappyaddict · 16/10/2008 20:00
