to not want my baby in outfits?

He is 10 weeks old. I have today for the first time, put him in jeans and top with a tank-top over the top.

The thing is, I cant friggin hold him now, as the clothes are riding up.

I really like babies in vest and babygros. They look comfy, no band on belly area, and you can hold them, without them feeling like they are falling apart!

After he has been weighed today, he straight back in his babygro when we get home!

ps, I have only dressed him so it looks like I have made the effort

Yep, babygros or fleecy dungarees with long sleeved tops.

When at home both of mine were mainly in long nightie type things with long socks, even easier!

MrsJamin · 13/10/2008 11:58

I reckon vest+babygro til about 4 months, then into dresses/dungarees, I agree about waistbands from jeans etc, and jeans are very restrictive in terms of sitting up/rolling too. dungies are so cute and they don't look like they are miniadults just yet.

UmMwahahahaaaaa · 13/10/2008 12:01

my 3 mth old is in joggers, vest and tops but it is annoying about tops riding up...

UmMwahahahaaaaa · 13/10/2008 12:03

ps, he is massive so growing out of wearing all the 3-6mth stuff we were given. Agree with wearing cute babygros for long as poss.

theirmum · 13/10/2008 12:08

I have only really just started dressing my DS (5 1/2 months) in "clothes" up until now its been vest and baby gro like a sado I have "special" ones for when we go out to see people lol!

ummadam · 13/10/2008 12:21

yesterday DS (9months) was in dungarees, t shirt, socks and soft shoes (so he could cruise around the rather grubby floor with his dad while I tried on jeans)

today he is in a babygro as 1)I'm in a hurry 2)he was going to be sitting in the shopping trolley and not walking this morning 3) he would be tired when when we got home (and got put straight into his cot without a clothing change before I unpacked the shopping).

stick you baby in whatever you fancy today he's too young to care and it is noone else's business

LuLuBai · 13/10/2008 12:22

Best of all - zip up babygros. Easiest of all for regular nappy changes.

FAQ · 13/10/2008 12:24

so you won't want any of DS3's old clothes then......all little outfits

PS - who were you trying to impress with your effort round here

ummadam · 13/10/2008 12:26

oh btw - as a doctor (and I expect your hv feels the same) we love babygros - much less faff and it doesn't take ages to get them undressed for weighing or to examine them.

my son goes to HV or doc appointments in a vest and babygro and gets stripped and wrapped in a blanket while we wait

Divvy · 13/10/2008 12:28

At surestart....no idea!

Next nappy change, he will back in his babygros! I have took some cute pictures though

but he look too grown-up

I wonder if night time "colic" is caused/made worse by tight bands on bellies in the days time?

flourybaps · 13/10/2008 12:31

Lulubai Where do you get zip up babygros? They sound just my thing!

nickytwoooohtimes · 13/10/2008 12:33

Oh, I love babygrows on los too. I HATE jeans on any pre-walkers. Horrid.

FAQ · 13/10/2008 12:33

"Ds2 is in babygros and vests a lot, just use a tank top or cardi on top if it's cold. He's 16mo "

and you find that easier? God they're a bloody faff (babygros) as they get old, especially one they're running around. DS3 was put into PJ's for bedtime when he was about 10 months old as I was fed up of faffing trying to get arms and legs in. He's 16 months now and I could imagine trying to put him in a babygro - it would be sheer torture for both of us!

FAQ · 13/10/2008 12:36

thing is there's "Jean" and there's "Jeans" - all of my DS's "jeans" pre walking weren't jean material at all - they were soft material - and certainly never dug into their waist- if they dig into the waist - they're too small (or is that too obvious??).

rempy · 13/10/2008 12:36

YANBU I was shamed into putting DD into an outfit when a 9 year old said loudly in a queue "why is that baby still in its pajamas?" Wish I'd not been bothered but it did seem that everyone else "properly dressed" their babies.

nickytwoooohtimes · 13/10/2008 12:37

Oh, I wouldn't put a 16b mth in a babygrow - you'd need 8 hands.

Sidge · 13/10/2008 12:39

I much prefer seeing little babies in babygrows - they look so uncomfortable (and often really daft) in proper clothes.

My girls often had plain sleepsuits at night, then wore 'fancy' ones in the day. Or little fleecy dungarees with long sleeved vests underneath - really cute and comfy.

I was a practice nurse and used to wince when I was doing immunisation clinic and babies were brought in wearing an outfit of jeans, denim jacket, shirt and trainers. They could hardly move! And they looked quite strange all dressed up in 'proper' clothes.

used2bthin · 13/10/2008 12:52

I dressed DD in little outfits really early and sort of regret it now. She looks mad in some of the pictures as she had no hair and so looked very odd in her first skirt, tights and top outfit that I got her for her first party I think she was comfortable though, she wore soft stuff, lots of stretchy trousers type things with a long top over or dungerees occasionally. For me though it was actually easier to put her in seperates as she used to be sick ALL the time (reflux) and so it was less washing if I could just change her top. I never looked at other peoples babies and felt critical of what they had been dressed in though, babygros are cute at that age.

threetinytots · 13/10/2008 12:58

God, no, I hate babies in outfits. What's the point? So much faff. DD1 and DD2 spent their entire first six months in sleepsuits. Although with DS I did think I had to dress him in "proper clothes". Plenty of time for them to wear sweet outfits when they're older. What is it with making babies and toddlers look like mini adults?

Divvy · 13/10/2008 13:00

The picture is on profile now, plus one in old comfy!

blueshoes · 13/10/2008 13:02

When your baby is a little older, 3m+, dungarees, or trousers, babygro underneath and t-shirt over. Avoids the riding up problem.

I have no problems with babygros - they are practical and comfy. Just nice to dress them up once in a while.

FAQ · 13/10/2008 13:03

babygro's were only really "invented" in the 1950's - well the trademark "babygro" was introduced in the 50's - I suppose the idea may have been around for a little longer - but I guess before that babies always used to wear "normal" clothes.

FAQ · 13/10/2008 13:05

aww he looks so cute (in both photos) and your DD4 is growing up SO fast!!!

Rindercella · 13/10/2008 13:09

YANBU. If I had to do the first 6 months again, DD would have only worn vests & babygros!! Outfits at that age are just a faff and pita. Have to say though that when I took her to HV to be weighed I would only ever dress her in babygros as that was the easiest/quicket thing to get her in and out of. HV alway said she appreciated this.

Now she is 13 months I do tend to dress her up a bit more, but quite often she'll stay in a babygro for the day.

cupchar · 13/10/2008 13:11

Before babygros it was knitted all in ones! Babygros can look super with a cardi & socks or some knitted trousers.
