Well, i am not british myself either and i suppose i do speak with an accent, my english isn't perfect and i know that, but i am sure if i speak to a UK based staff, we will have no problem at all..afterall, DH is English and he said my english is fine, all my friends said so too..anyway, I felt bad for saying, you speak with a very thick accent so i cant understand a word, ( thats why I said, sorry, can you repeat, i just didnt get it )..then he got annoyed with me like i am very stupid..oh god, completed nightmare,!

After many calls to three mobile and constantly in an asian call centre where they can only answer script based questions.... you know you ask them a different question and they just give you company line with a ridiculous ending like..... we only have calls to Australia at night, is this oksy for you? Now how can help you further? etc.
I was so annoyed at the fifth question answered with he same line I said......look where am I calling because you don't seem to be able to grasp what I'm asking? The strong Indian accent answered 'Newcastle, madam'.
It makes me feel angry and like I'm being prejudiced, when I can't understand what someone is saying... I feel too frightened to say just incase they think I am a racist.

try having a heavy Scottish accent, like DH.

i make all the customer service calls around here.

I can understand any UK accent I have ever heard (sometimes after 5 minutes . It's more the rigid sticking to script and incapacity fro colloquialisms that drives me crazy with call centres abroad, and the accent that hinders understanding further!

Twelvelegs: My DP took an international call (shown on caller id) so obviously not from Uk. His first question was 'where are you phoning from??' and was told Newcastle. They got in to a big argument (DP had been made redundant at the time and really had too much time on his hands!!!). and demanded to speak to a supervisor. Eventually came on and admitted they were in India. As my DP said well why would I buy anything from you when you have just been caught out on a lie

Having the same problem with BT actually caused me to switch to cable, but I'm lucky to have the choice. Much sympathy for those who get as frustrated as I did!

Oh, now I don't feel so bad!!
