because he started standing on my sofa?
My friend's son is 3, a very sweet boy but i wouldnt let my kids do that and my friend didnt say anything to him but looked really miffed that i did, this was after about 5 mins of biting my lip...

yanbu, which you already know.
I wouldn't have bit my lip for 5 mins, I would have told him to get down.

traceybath · 11/10/2008 20:14

I'd have removed him from my sofa to be honest - can't bear children standing on my furniture.

I would have distracted him initially but if that didn't work i would have said 'hey no standing on furniture in this house children' with a smile though.

babyOcho · 11/10/2008 20:14

YANBU, your friend should have done it before he started standing on your sofa... or carpet.

notsoteenagemum · 11/10/2008 20:15

YANBU I would've done too.

bonnibaby · 11/10/2008 20:17

He wasnt jumping or anything which is why i felt awkward but just standing up next to his mum like kids do sometimes i suppose ,it was the fact that he had his shoes on that bothered me.

I still think that 3 is too old to stand on furniture.

Also if you don't let your own children do it - too confusing for them to let other children do it.

nickytwoooohtimes · 11/10/2008 20:23

YANBU.
I frequently ask my friends' kids to do things according to my rules in my house, and I expect them to do the same.

Wezzle · 11/10/2008 20:28

YANBU your house your rules

as others have said, your friend should have made him take them off straight away

ShyBaby · 11/10/2008 20:31

YANBU. I dont let my own kids stand on my old knackered sofa, with or without shoes. Certainly dont think they should be standing on anyone else's.

misshardbroom · 11/10/2008 22:42

YANBremotelyU... and fair play to you having the confidence to say it.

Here's what I do:

  1. boil with resentment
  2. bite lip
  3. secretly hope one of my own dcs will do it too so then I can say 'No no no, sonofhardbroom, we certainly don't stand on furniture, do we?'
  4. shame friend into making hers get down too.

but then, I am a terrible parent.

AbbeyA · 11/10/2008 22:45

I wouldn't even let him stand on the sofa, shoes or no shoes! Your house, your rules.

2shoesdrippingwithblood · 11/10/2008 22:47

YANBU
ds is 16 and his mates all leave their shoes at the door, always have done, as fo letting him stand on the sofa, no way.
