This morning me and DH went to my friends house. It is the first time friend and DH have met.

Anyway her little girl was playing with a pole thing and holding it upright and trying to sit on it.

DH then said in a jokey way "you know, if you slip that will go all the way through and out of your mouth!"

The girl laughed.

My friend later said she was suprised he said that and that she found it a bit 'odd'. she wouldn't say in what way she found it odd.

So is it? I never thought anything of it until she brought it up again.

although I'd probably have said it would come her nose rather than her mouth

itgetseasier · 10/10/2008 18:36

Yes - it was a bit of an odd thing to say.

WeLoveFabio · 10/10/2008 18:37

Some people are really weirdly oversensitive around their children.

I remember seeing another mum whom I had always assumed was normal, outside a supermarket one day. Our kids hgad been at preschool together and ds was having an encounter with her daughter, I think he might have sort of patted her, or something - she was just standing there, she was about 3 - and the woman grabbed her and pulled her away from ds saying n shocked tones, 'Don't hit my little girl!!!!!!'

I was really

I mean he barely touched her and it was only to get a reaction because she wasn't doing anything and he wanted to play.

I sort of avoid her now...

I think if you've got a dirty mind it might seem an inappropriate comment.

I find it even more odd that instead of saying something about it to your dh she mentioned it to you - why? you're not responsible for what your dh says, if she wants to have a go at anyone she should have a go at him.

Cartoose · 10/10/2008 18:42

She sounds really weird and OTT WeLoveFabio.

PinkTulips · 10/10/2008 18:44

people are weird, not a weird statement at all unless you're overanxious and see paedophiles lurking on every corner.

ds found my friend's brother's guitar clippy thing yesterday and wanted to know what it was..... he was told it was for clipping little boys willies

i'd hardly jump to the conclusion that said friend's brother is a lunatic paedo as a result!

Twims · 10/10/2008 19:00

Not odd - if he was trying to get her to stop playing with something that will harm her but doesn't know her well enough to tell her off.

snooks · 10/10/2008 19:22

oh fgs definitely not an odd comment imo - just a bit like something that would happen in an old-skool tom and jerry cartoon (not for the pc brigade then )

as if he meant it literally - does your friend not realise that there isn't a direct line from an arsehole (or god forbid a fanjo) to a mouth??? therefore it was a joke

Wuxiapian · 10/10/2008 20:40

Seems like a very inappropriate way to speak with a little girl, IMHO.

"...all the way through and out of your mouth!"

All the way through what exactly? Is he referring to front or back passage?

No, I wouldn't like to hear that being said to my child.

NannyNanny · 10/10/2008 21:26

Your friend sounds over sensitive. As do many of the people on this talkboard! Why is it an odd thing to say?

hecAteTheirBrains · 10/10/2008 21:33

I don't think he was referring to either. I think he probably didn't have either her anus or vagina in his mind when he made the joke.

OK, it's a pretty stupid joke to make impaling a small child on a spike! trust a bloke to think that funny , but if you think he was picturing the item entering by any specific means and that was his motivation for the joke , well, I doubt it! I suspect he thought not one bit about her, er, well, bits and was just seeing a cartoon-like picture iyswim.

Sometimes people make off the cuff jokes that they do not plan out or think through, no need to over analyse imo.

HaveYouCheckedTheChildren · 10/10/2008 21:37

A bit odd but no more odd than saying if the wind changes your face will stay that way. Or that chewing gum will tangle up your insides.

ScareyBitchFeast · 10/10/2008 21:42

i think she has a warped sense of she finds that an odd comment.
