To think Gogos should not be allowed in school!!!

DS1 , aged 6, is at a small school is very upset that 5 boys (out of 8) have gogos and he can't play. I am really pissed off as not allowing him to have them means he doesn't get to play with half the boys in his class and so puts him out of the friendship group. So I am now having to buy them, I know I don't HAVE to but really feel I should. Shouldn't toys be banned from school.

No worse than sticker swaps, etc that are often seen around schools IMO.

rhinosparkle · 06/10/2008 20:21

My dd has been going on about these, what are they & why won't you allow him to have them (out of interest)? Please give me good excuse not to have to fork out for more tat!

acoady · 06/10/2008 20:22

hmm, it's your choice as to whether to buy go-gos, I look at them as fairly harmless. I think they give boys in particular a really good opportunity for lots of interaction and a shared interest. My ds is 4 and plays gogos with boys in all different years in his school. It makes him feel really grown up, and part of a gang, which I think is great. The rule at his school is no trading, which is definetly a good idea. I don't think it has really caused any problems in the school, and my ds uses his £1 pocket money on gogos every week. He knows that if he is naughty there will be no more gogos at the end of the week.

Andrea.

Rhino, they're small plastic tat toys about an inch and half tall. You get three for a quid and then trade them with friends. You can collect families, some are allegedly rarer than others.

I don't have a problem with them but I would ban all toys from school. DS hasn't had any problems, and it does give him soemthing to talk to others about, but I just don't like toys in school on principle.

Twelvelegs · 06/10/2008 20:50

Oh they're quite cheap then? MMM, perhaps the idea of no moaning around homework for DS1 and doing as told staright away fro DS2 is a good idea.

Yes, pretty cheap. About 99p for a pack with 3 in, plus 3 stickers.

We got a mult pack on Amazn a while ago which worked out very good value at the time.

muggglewump · 06/10/2008 20:58

DD has them, she spends her pocket money on them.
They are banned at school though because they lead to arguments about who had which or they get lost and someone gets upset.

They are pointless rubbish AFAIC but DD likes them and it's up to her to choose.

ingles2 · 06/10/2008 21:27

gogo's have been banned at our school too much to dc's dismay. Too many arguments and upsets I gather. I think they should set up a trading/swap club with rules 1 lunchtime a week for all the cards, stickers etc.

Grammaticus · 06/10/2008 21:29

They're very cheap. I think YABU - it's something different to do.

wheresthehamster · 06/10/2008 21:35

Unless toys are banned in school I think you have to go with the flow.

Over the past 10 years I have given in to Beanie Baby cards, Pokemon cards, My Little Ponies, Bey Blades, yo-yos, Nintendo DSs (eek!),diabolos and many more that I've forgotten. I don't give in at first, mind, I wait to see whether it is true that "EVERYONE EXCEPT ME" has them

Pastarito · 06/10/2008 21:38

Lots of schools ban them, probably rightly so really as it does all seem to often end in tears. Ok if they want to trade them after school and in their free time but can be a pain for schools to deal with.

lou33 · 06/10/2008 21:40

yeh i got dragged into doing this too

little bits of plastic tat have a lot to answer for

tho i wouldnt mind earning a fortune in business that way

Yurtgirl · 06/10/2008 21:43

I think they look fun - especially as they are dont appear to be a tv/film tie in - everything else seems to be these days

I am quite tempted to get some for ds stocking - Do they sell them in Woolies?

PeaMcLean · 06/10/2008 21:47

I agree it's quite nice that it's not tv / film related. Yet. And I like the fact that you can play really old fashioned style games with them.

Twelvelegs · 07/10/2008 07:34

This is what I love about MMN!!!
