Why are Boden clothes so annoying and do people who wear them want it to be recognised?

Don't they say everything about the people who wear it? Their lifestyle? And the fact that they recognise each other?
But some of the none hotchy potchy stuff I admit is nice...
as long as it isn't obviously Boden

plumandolive only ever so slightly!!! but seriously I just can't imagine judging people based on their clothing choices and feel a bit sad that someone might think I the braying type just because I have a few items of clothing from one particular shop.

Litchick · 06/10/2008 15:03

I buy it, especially for the kids - it's good quality and well fitting and you don't have to move your fat arse from the computor and go shopping.

plumandolive · 06/10/2008 15:04

everyone's fairgame on mumsnet- It's not serious froggy, just observations about buying styles. It's fun. Calm down....

It's annoying because smug old Johnny Boden ponces about with his model 'mates' pretending to be all Cornwall laid back when he's clearly an astute business man in a soft shirt. They have good sales but never the right sizes left, I have a couple of their things as do the children, but they do have a middle class uniform reputation and produce new versions of the same thing over and over again so pretty uninspiring- maybe it's time for new blood in the yummy mummy mail order market.

froggyfroofroo · 06/10/2008 15:06

im not getting wound up, its just something ive noticed alot on here.

plumandolive · 06/10/2008 15:06

I just think, out of all the shops available, Boden says most...
Yes- it is inverted snobbery, yes, it is wrong to judge people on where they buy their clothes.
But it's only in fun.. it's not serious!

plumandolive · 06/10/2008 15:07

Doesn't Johnnie's etonian voice irritate you on the phone thing?

Neeerly3 · 06/10/2008 15:14

at you lot who can afford boden....

MrsBates · 06/10/2008 15:23

Don't be too . My DD is in the same couple of in the sale Boden things she had two years ago and soon DD2 will inherit. Buy big and wear until in tatters. Rest of their stuff is hand me downs, knitted by clever relatives or Tesco/Sainsbury sets of T shirts etc. NCT sales full of cheap Boden stuff too. Not that you necessarily need Boden clad children to make your world complete of course.

NomDePlume · 06/10/2008 15:27

I like the plainer Boden stuff, their non hotchpotch knitwear is great.

I don't like the kids stuff. DD (6) wouldn't be seen dead in it anyway. Most of the girls stuff would look sweet enough on a 2 year old but imo, is too babyish or Enid Blyton for older children and (lol) teenagers.

orangina · 06/10/2008 15:43

chocolate covered malted milk biscuits over here...

MrsMattie · 06/10/2008 15:45

I really don't get Boden, It's just so....meh, middle of the road, bland bordering on middle aged. It's just not stylish or sexy in any way, shape or form.

The kids stuff is absolute rip off.

SaintRiven · 06/10/2008 15:47

think I'll stick with my jeans and baggy jumpers.

noonki · 06/10/2008 15:52

I had never heard of boden til I came on MN!

fartmeistergeneral · 06/10/2008 15:52

Dare I say it's overpriced? If clothing is overpriced then IMO you are paying the extra for the label whether it's Boden or Prada. In the same way, you pay extra for the whole Location, Location, Location thing.

Also, no-one would put their children in tartan trews without wanting a little bit of recognition! Only joking.....they are quite cute really, but very BODEN.

Unfortunately, I am scarred by the personalities of the Boden wearers around here. I'm sure they are not representative.

Fimbo · 06/10/2008 15:55

I wear it.

I have currently wearing a v neck top in green.

I am fed up buying cheap stuff from Primark or Zara which falls apart at the underarm seams.

Actually I bought three of these tops all at once - with 15% off and free p & p.

They don't scream Boden.

I thank you.

Mammina · 06/10/2008 15:56

the only reason I heard of boden was bec MIL wears it (and she is middle class!), wouldn't wear it myself but like the kids stuff, but can't afford it

fartmeistergeneral · 06/10/2008 15:58

Fimbo I'm with you on the Primark seams falling apart thing.

I've never bought anything from Boden, had a catalogue from Boden or know anybody who has clothing from Boden.

But yet I keep getting 'postcards' from Boden, you know the sort of thing, free p+p etc.

I think they have tracked me down because I MN .
