To hate the expression "let's party"?

Please don't use the word party as a verb. It's wrong. And if you are over 35 and say "Let's party" you are a tit.

AIBU?

Swedes - you are getting old!

Swedes · 04/10/2008 13:47

I've been old for ages. But the cantankerousness is fairly new.

I had an email from a good friend entitled "It's my birthday not that we need an excuse to party" She is 48.

If they say 'let's party' and mean it in an ironic way is that ok?

Swedes · 04/10/2008 13:51

vjg13 Could you demonstrate how you might convey irony in this circumstance? Please link to a youtube video of you saying "Let's Party", heavy on the irony.

How do we know you are not just a tit?

OOoooh no, am I not allowed to use 'cool' either.

IorekByrnison · 04/10/2008 14:27

I agree, Swedes. Your friend's email is very bad news.

Swedes · 04/10/2008 18:44

Iorek - Thank goodness you think so too.

My niece is in her second year at Bath University and said she was going to do less partying this year. I forgive her because she's young, and pretty.

Kimi · 04/10/2008 19:16

DS1 was looking at Bath uni,

MrsMattie · 04/10/2008 19:18

Who says this? It sounds like something from a cheesy American teen film.

BellaBear · 04/10/2008 19:20

reminds me of the episode of Black Books where Bill Bailey says 'Let's paaaaarrrrrttt...' and Bernard cuts him off saying "I WILL NOT HAVE THE 'PARTY' USED AS A VERB IN MY SHOP!!!"

TotalChaos · 04/10/2008 19:20

and what does it mean? does it imply drink/drugs and clubbing?

Boco · 04/10/2008 19:23

What are you talking about Swedes?

I say it all the time, with a cocktail in each hand raised above my head (with one of those fancy glace cherries in each and a tiny umbrella) as I weave out to the red sports car full of hollerin' mates, and then we drive off and I shout 'lets paaarty guys! Woooo HOOOO!'

There's nothing wrong with that and I won't have you ruin it for me.

MrsMattie · 04/10/2008 19:31

LOL@Boco.

Do you have a cast of extras applauding you and screaming 'Way To Go!' as your hot rod drives off into the sunset?

Swedes · 04/10/2008 20:34

In the 80s we called it 'going out'.

I'll make an exception for Boco as well as she is smart and amusing.
