School Photo payment.

Before I start, can I just say that I have the money for these pictures, I will be buying them, I will also eat that week!
Sorry, but I felt it important to add that in light of recent things.

Anyway, moving on to the AIBU, to think that the school photo payment date is too soon.
This is the letter we had home today with the pics.

"Fotek require payment by Wednesday 15th October and as this is October holidays, all monies and orders will need to be in by Wednesday 8th October at the latest".

Less than a week? Really?
I'm not on benefits anymore, I will buy a photo, I have money to buy one but last year I couldn't have with that notice. ( I don't have a P1 photo for exectly this reason)
A week at least, preferably two so those on low budgets can manage it.
I'm so cross.

If I had an unknown quantity of time to save up for something I wouldn't put it as a priority, there are lots of things that need my money more.

FreakyLadyFrightALot · 03/10/2008 22:49

indeed, when photos are taken depends on the school...
we have moved a fair bit around and have experienced a variety of photo routines...some some take group and single pics in the same year in different terms, others vary one year group one year individual, others have no certain routine...

muggglewump · 04/10/2008 01:57

What about the packs though?
Surely it's unreasonable that you can only buy a pack of photos?
I want two large photos, one for me, one for my Dad but the pack with them in is £22, you can only order extras if you order a pack first and the cheapest is £10 with no large pictures.
I know the answer is to buy none, but I want one, well two but just them without being pushed into buying more, and without it being announced I have a week less to pay than what I'd initially thought.

Perhaps IABU, I think I probably given the responses but I am still annoyed.

Dds' (high) school wanted us to pay for the photos before we'd even seen them!

At least in primary school they'd bring home proofs first...loads of them...class photo, school choir, netball club, the two of them together.

And dh is a photographer (who hardly ever takes any pics because that's what he does all day)

pamelat · 04/10/2008 10:04

Over priced, posed (false) photos.

pamelat · 04/10/2008 10:06

My SIL is a childrens photographer (not school one), hers are so much nicer (and free for us!)

Lyndipops · 05/08/2010 16:39

I would love to know what parents want from school photography companies?

I know the company that I have started working with, albeit a small firm. do lots for the schools and the PTA.

I would love to know what service other mums would like to get.

Interesting this.

Lyndipops · 29/01/2011 15:39

Guess mums dont want to say what packs they would like?

Let me know and we can do what ever the parents require.

Tiredmumno1 · 29/01/2011 16:06

??

woollyideas · 29/01/2011 16:17

Well Lyndipops, I'd like the packs to be cheaper. Can't see how the price is justifiable at all, but then I'm perpetually skint.

iJudge · 29/01/2011 16:25

You bumped a thread from 08 by asking a question in 2010 and rebumped the thread in 2011 by moaning no one had asked the question?

Brings a new meaning to the word recycling Grin

woollyideas · 29/01/2011 16:29

I hadn't noticed that. How strange Angry

Yep bumped and old thread as the question is current then and now.

Packs would be cheaper if images were to cd or parents had packs with no mounts. The mounts are more expensive to supply than the photos.

llareggub · 30/01/2011 13:52

The mounts are usually hideous. I'd rather pay for the electronic image and print myself, and choose the mount and frame for myself.

dwpanxt · 30/01/2011 14:12

You know - I never even gave a second thought to the mounts and how much they contribute to the cost of the packs.

I don't use the mounts so an option buy with/without mounts would be good. I'm only interested in the photos and wouldn't display them in the cardboard mounts anyway.I have lots of lovely frames for that .

I would also like the photo information printed on a strip under the photo - school name/class,date taken etc. So easy to forget even with one child and easy to do with software .It would be hidden within the frame but still accessible .I know my old school photos have no dates or info on them and it would be lovely to have had a definite 'stamp' on them.

Lyndipops · 30/01/2011 15:51

Digital image is the way to go. The cds have a licence and you can print as many as you want and whenever you want.

May start offering all photos with out mounts. With a tick box for those that do and they can add the cost on then.......

Makes so much cheaper and no wasted mounts going in the bin.

mrsgetonwithit · 30/01/2011 16:04

I take my own photos but what could be offered is just the straight forward photo.

10 x 8 =£

8 x 6 = £

7 x 5 =£

As I said I take my own and a 7 x 5 is about 50p.
